It's amazing how you guys can have an argument over ToP - on its own a pretty useless stat. Just look at the box scores on blowouts. You will find there are some games where the big winner actually lost the ToP.

For the D, it does not matter that they give up minutes if they are not giving up points.

For the O, it does not really matter if they keep the ball over long durations if they don't score.

ToP is more a function of...

1) Style of play, which dictates how much time they consumer to advance for the length of the field. Teams who tend to go hurry up and/or pass more will often "lose" ToP.

2) Whether you are leading or behind for most of the game
