Best Player Trade Value We Got In The BB Era

Which trading of a player during Coach Bill's era do you think had the most value we got back in terms of a pick.

It depends if tehre's any kind of rookie pay scale in 2011 under the new CBA.  If there isn't then I'd have to go with Bledsoe over Branch, neither was all that good with their new teams, but we had no need for Bledsoe and essentially got a 1st rounder for our backup QB.

Best draft pick trade overall would have to go to Moss for a 4th rounder though.

I'm just saying Players we unloading for picks, not ones we traded for.   Corey Dillion was also a great trade, a 2nd round pick, for a franchise back, yes he was older but he rushed for 1,600 yards and helped win us a Superbowl.

I have to go with Bledsoe on the poll.  He had a huge contract, remember we signed him to that extension before the 2001 season, and he hated BB so we really couldn't keep him on the roster.    BB and Pioli stuck to their guns and go tremendous value for Bledsoe.

All good trades, but with Cassel you traded a 7th round pick for a 2nd round pick after coaching the kid up. Star players (Hershal Walker etc...) get traded for high picks all the time. If you try to trade a 7th round back-up QB for 2nd round pick it would almost never happen. A testament to the Pats coaching staff and management.

People should start discussing whether or not the Pats draft a 3-4 DE next year (1st or 2nd round) and do Fork Mankins and some O linemen get signed. Trading Seymour is short term pain for long term gain.....maybe the wrong thread...but you get the idea......time to move on....did someone mention Gerald Mc Coy.

The best trade of the BB era will be Coach Bill's next trade with the owner formerly known as Al Davis (now knoen as Count Chocula): Star CB Asomugha in exchange for (1) a new walker PLUS (2) a complete DVD set of 'The Golden Girls'!

Best trade in the BB era was a number one pick to the Jets for BB in 2000

The amusing thing was that fans were screaming last preseason that Cassell needed to be cut, then screamed even louder that we got screwed for getting 'only' a second rounder for him and Vrabel - lol.

Wouldn't that have to be before the BB era, since we were trading to get him?  Regardless, that would certainly top the Moss deal.

Re: Best Player Trade Value We Got In The BB Era

Cassel deal was very good as well considering we got a high 2nd rounder compared to the 7th we used to draft him, but I'm still surprised more teams didn't go after him.  The Vikings come on guys, you really want 39 year old Brett Farve who cost just as much as Cassel.  The Vikings would have been the perfect spot for Cassel.

That said this is how I rank the player trade value.

    1.  Bledsoe - No real market for him, getting a 1st rounder was a miracle, mainly we took advantage that Buffalo wanted a franchise QB who was still only 31.  They got a great year in 2002 out of him so we didn't totally rob them.

    2.  Tebucky Jones - An overrated free safety, getting a 2nd round pick for him was also a steal.  Jones helped us win a championship but never quite developed into the player people thought he would be.

    3.  Branch - Before Injuries set in, Branch seemed like he could be a Santana Moss type receiver who could be a borderline Pro-Bowler.  But we dumped him because we didn't want to pay him millions, great move, although Brady cried about it at the time.  In hindsight Moss and Welker are both way better than Branch was and we added a 1st rounder.

    4.  Richard Seymour - Considering this could turn into the 1st overall pick of the draft for a 29 defensive line with a lot of wear and tear on his body, a contract coming up, and a history of injuries, not bad BB.
