Forget all those we need to get pressure on a QB otherwise those positions will eventually fall apart. What we need is an probowl caliber DT to collapse the pocket. Build a D from the inside out not the outside in

Ive been saying it for a while. Offense wins games. Defense gets the Ring. If you wanna know why we havent won, look no rurther than BB who turned this into an offensive team long ago. He doesnt value RBs or CBs. He sets the team up to Live and Die on Bradys Arm but cant even give him competent weapons. Look at what just happened to Manning with an all pro cast!!!   2 more years to get it right, but dont look good. Time to scrap this BBDB and get some agressive playmakers on D so WE can get off the field for once....

Then BB better get this Patriots defense turned around, fast.  I saw more pressure on Manning in 1 qtr last night by the Seahawks then the Patriots can put on a QB in an entire game.. or 2 games together.  BB better bring in the right pieces to get pressure on the QB to force quicker throws, Gregory better be replace by a legit Safety and Arrington better never play on the outside ever again.  Belichick better have been taken notes last night, Patriots never touched or pressured Manning into mistakes in the playoffs.  To see how the Seahawks D went out and did that to Manning last night... WOW, the Pats have a long way to go on defense.

Of course they were better but the first 3 games which we still had people weren't exactly facing top end O's, not to mention if was rook or worse QB's. We still have no clue what this D is or if Wilfork and Kelly will come back 100% (frankly that's asking a lot given age). There's also the issue of Talib which who knows how much he can actually give year in and year out. There are a lot of question marks with this D moving forward and just writing them off as well wait till we get healthy is whistling past a graveyard. These are issues that need to be fixed this offseason and not to wait to see how everyone's health is game 1

The Seahawks have almost 30 million committed in cap dollars this year to their defensive line.  It is easier to do that when your QB is still on their rookie contract.  Once Wilson gets paid and the Seahawks draft at the end of the 1st round every year for a few years we'll see what happens to them.  The Patriots once had this type of advantage and they won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.  The Seahawks built a strong team this year and their management should be commended for it, but let's not pretend they invented some new system for building a team that BB has missed out on.

Has Brady not given money back to the team? Is Brady the top paid QB in the league?, heck is he even a top 5 paid QB? The Pats had $21mil  tied to the DL and $15mil in dead money. Cut that dead money and half and put it into the DL. There I found a way to spend as much on the DL as Sea while still paying Brady the same amount...... That's no excuse

Brady signed a team friendly deal.  There is no denying that.  I am not complaining about his contract.  I am stating a fact that he counts for 14 million against the cap and Wilson counts for 600K.  That is a huge advantage.  It's not Brady's fault.  It is the nature of the NFL.  The point is before the QB gets paid it gives you way more leeway to make mistakes.  Consider the Seahawks who had about 8 million in dead money this year.  In addition they had almost 10 million in cap dollars committed to Sidney Rice who is  basically a JAG at this point.  They had 11 million in cap dollars committed to Zach Miller who is a JAG TE.  Those kind of mistakes can cripple a team that is also paying their franchise QB market value.  The Seahawks have the luxury of having their franchise QB for peanuts.

So pcm, again what's limiting the Pats from doing the same thing as Sea? Sea built through the draft and invested in some higher end players. Brady is a higher end player right? So, it boils done to if you pay so much for higher end players you need to find talent in the draft. It's not as if Sea gets to spend more then the Pats, they have the same limits so it boils down to Sea finding better players via the draft and finding better FA's who's value per production is higher then the price paid to sign them (in otherwords less dead money from failed signings invested in higher talent players instead of retreads). There is nothing there that says to me the Pats are limited in cap space they couldn't invest in the DL the same way Sea did. There is nothing there that screams oh because we have Brady we can't have players x, y, and z from Sea. It's simply Sea made better choices in the draft and FA while the Pats took less talented guys and retreads in bulk hoping to find diamonds from coal. Both are gambles and could pay off, but to me paying $10mil finding 1 diamond you need to polish among 10 tons of coal is not as effective as making moves and paying $10mil for two rough diamonds and hoping one doesn't crack while you cut it.

If you want a prime example, in 12' Patriots were rumored to want Bryant and the Sea ended up resigning him. The limiting factor BB wasn't willing to go up that high for Bryant but then went out and signed Fanene. Fanene was by far the cheaper option in terms of money and years. Bryant went on to be a critical factor why Sea was in the SB and Fanene? Well he cost the Pats $2.5mil this season and $1.3mil last season. now $2.5mil doesn't seem like a lot but that's the difference between Kelly this year and someone closer to their prime. Now you start adding up all the dead money cuts here and there and suddenly you find you could have Bryant and Goldson on this team not to mention another WR like say Sanders and still have the same amount of Dead money as Sea did. So, Do you think adding players like Bryant, Goldson, and Sanders would have helped the team this year?

exactly. Why cant people see that Carroll didnt do anything new. He did what WE did back in the day. If you can draft a good QB and have a good D, you have a 4 to 5 year window to win before your QBs contract is up. They did it and have a chance at a few more same as us but I WILL say they are set up a bit better because they got talented WRs that werent drafted. They dont have to pay any position for a while. They just signed Kam which was smart as he is big for them. Baldwin, Kearse, Stocker all guys contributing in a big way that arent getting paid anything. The 2 pass rushers they got last offseason(bennet, avril) were cheap and wont put them in cap hell. The only Real Issue I see is trying to extend Sherman who surely wont play another year on a 5th rd contract which he shouldnt. You franchise him. You find a way to sign Earl Thomas. Maybe you lose ONE of them but they are stacked. They have BIG backups who come in and dont miss a beat. They have really built as good a team you can get. San Fran is built the same way and will have to win in the next couple years before Colin gets his but whats not to like?  BB should go back to drafting D and get us a good vet WR. we ill compete but Seattle looks like a 3 year dynasty right now.

    Gomie failed.

Gomie's only ring was because he checked the eog at the door and handed it off to Addai and Rhodes.

As long as Gomie or Brady think it's about them and their legacy, they will never win a SB ever again. It's that simple.

Here we go again with the whining about the defense. Maybe one of you armchair GMs can figure out how you bring in all these high salary defensive players while at the same time bringing in those free agent receivers you're calling for and at the same time continuing to pay the O Line.

If yesterday proves anything it is that the days of the strictly pocket passer QB in the NFL are ending.

I thought the Pats team was put together pretty well.  It was the injuries (and a murder case) that did the team in.  Although I'm not sure trying to establish the run against a defense ranked 5th against the run was too smart.

Toss in Hernandez and Gronk and a healthy defense and the Pats would have done a better job than the Broncos last night.
