This guy will be all pro in three years and then we will lose him to free agency as we have to so many others.

It's a joke - we do not need a 5 ft 10 inch CB in a division filled with tall, strong wideouts....We need to improve the pass rush (Kindle) or even our WE corp (Welker won't be back anytime soon and Moss is on his way out - what have we provided Brady with?)...we could have had Dez Bryant and I am disgusted by the direction we went.

Patience. This was day 1 of a 3 day process. There is gold to be had in rounds 2 and 3. McCourty was an excellent pick if you really think about it. I could elaborate, but read Pats7393 above. He sums it up well enough.

And, pass rush can come from multiple positions. If they don't draft Kindle in round 2 please don't freak out. Again, the Pats are going to run a lot nickel and some 4-3, so if they go after an interior DL, or a 4-3/3-4 end, it makes sense.

Coming around on #Patriots 1st #NFLDraft pick. If they go heavy pass rushers Rd2-3, I see blitz happy defense causing a ton of turnovers #fb

    Draft Pick Expert?

I don't know what is going through Bill's head in his senior years.  Sounded like Kindle was the mock pick.   I think Josh McNichols swapped picks to get Tebow before Bill got him.   Tebow can fill a couple positions if needed.  Tom Terrific has fallen from #1 QB to at least #6.   Are we to count on Hoyt for victory?   The Pats are in such need of a "Defense".  I hope the next couple pics are worthwhile.  ESPN has not even mentioned the Pats pick as if worthless.

Maybe I am too trusting but I give BB the benefit of the doubt here. if he thinks we need another CB, then maybe thats what we need. He obviously wasn't sold on Kindle in the first round and Shawn Springs is not going to cover Marshall or Edwards. This might be a transition year for the pats. With 2 first round picks next year and a probably rookie cap....

Now we have six second stringers at CB. We can cut the second stringers we drafted two years ago to make room for the new second stringers.

Wow, all the superbowl winning coaches and gm's are on this board bashing the patriots... Just because you have never heard of the guy doens't mean he's not going to be good. Just because Breer never mention hime ever doesn't mean he won't be good.

All i have read on these boards are people celebrating the depth of this draft. If thats the case why are you bashing the patriots taking the best conrer on the board? Don't they still have a lot of draft picks. don't they now have a third round pick that they can trade to oakland to Morrison since the raiders drafter Rolando?

It's one round, wait till the draft is over before you scream the world is ending

Glad they took the best player available instead of reaching for Hughes or Kindle.  Love all the chat board specialist blasting the pick like they have a clue.  There is a reason BB coaches a team and you watch the draft on tv.

Biggest need, No.  Best player, maybe.

I wouldn't have minded a pass rusher here either, but the secondary wasn't exactly a strong point either so I'm not that upset at the pick.  i think we all need to remember that 2nd rounders are still IMPACT players and we have three to pick. OLB's Koa Misi and Darryl Washington will still be available as well as (most likely) WR's Golden Tate and Damian Williams.  They'll be fine.

I hate this pick, I can't bash the player cause I don't know much of him, but it's a terrible pick.  We probably could've got this guy with our first 2nd rounder.  I'd feel much better if we got Dez Bryant followed by McCourty in the 2nd at some point.  I can't stand the "In Bill We Trust" crap, he's made far too many mistakes the last few years to continuously get free passes.  He screwed up, again.  It's getting old...especially when the rest of the AFC East (minus Buffalo) is seemingly getting better (drastically?).

I completely agree. In Bill we trust hasn't won us a SB in the past 5 years and the players we won those Superbowls with, were not drafted soley by Bill. Great coach, so so talent evaluator.

4.48 forty yards, really explosive on the 3-cone shuttle, from a small school where BB has placed a coach, absolutely a BB type of guy.

DEz should have been the pick...a game changer...I cannot believe he chose this SAFE pick.

Pioli meant a difference. I'll shortly be buying my new Chiefs hat.

Guys, we might not like the pick but we have to deal with it.  I think this guy will pan out.  BB knows football and we have to support the team and his decisions.

Devin McCourty welcome to the patriots.  Lets prove the nay sayers wrong.  Good luck!!!

    Re: Devin McCourty

Ok knee jerk reaction time over. After thinking about it over the night I understand the pick, though still not sure if I like it overall. I had McCourty pencilled in as a possible 2nd round pick since ST's was really hurting on gunners and returners (Welker being hurt doesn't help with that) but I actually didn't believe the Pats would draft a CB until after the first 4 picks. Looking over the run of CB's that went after the Pats took McCourty I now realize that none of the top 5 cb's would be there at #44. It was hard for me to believe that a run of CB's would happen like that but appearently the Pats must have known what was about to happen. Do I think that McCoutry will help, yes, but I'm still disappointed he was taken in the 1st over a pass rush, that's a big yes too. What it boils down to is either him or Butler wil be a part time nickle corner. If it's Butler then it's another early 2nd pick that was wasted on a CB, if it's McCourty then we just spent a 1st on a STer. Well today should be interesting. Could BB finally draft a OLB in the 1st 2 rounds?

he will get about 4-6 picks this year and 2 pick 6s, maybe a PR for a touchdown

Tate I like the glass is completely full thought but he's not a ball hawker. He had all of 6 int's over 4 years at Rutgers. He's also most likely going to play as a nickle in his first year. I think you are aiming way to high on this. I can see a pick or 2 with maybe a couple TD's in the return game
