Vegas guy, on Cowherd, said their simulators have Patriots winning by 8.  It's the fan money not gambler money, which is going 60+% on Giants, keeping spread low.

Wow, Cowherd is picking the Patriots now? Its funny about Dilfer because just about a month ago he was going on about how bad the Patriots defense is and that they wont win a playoff game.

Cowherd is pretty good  he takes a closer look at these games, most of the media doesn't look at stuff like the turnovers of the Niners in the NFC Championship game, or how the Patriots turned it over 3 time in the AFC title game and still won.

I would say that the casual Patriots fan knows more about the Patriots than most of the national media does. There is more anti Patriots in the national media than any team of any sport. Even many of ex NFL players (who didn't play for the Patriots) are haters.  Jealousy

Yup, Brady will be on a mission Sunday, he's probably heard enough. The Patriots are very dangerous when overlooked.

If you think the Pats are being overlooked than maybe the casual Patriots fan doesn't know more or much about the most important game of the year.

The ESPN poll is exactly 50/50, with the Pats leading in states that don't really have a dog in the fight, this idea that "everyone" is picking the Giants isn't true.

Vegas said 3.5, the fans moved it to 2.5 but Vegas has won in I think 19 of the last 21 Super Bowls, the Pats are the favorite and as it gets closer to game time, rational people are coming around to that fact.

And a far greater majority picked the Rams to beat the Pats, the Pats to beat the Giants last time, the Colts to beat the Saints,   It means nothing.

The "favorite" is determined by Vegas, an entity that has a massive financial interest in being correct.  That speaks volumes more than what a collection of ESPN employees think.

Exactly.  Neither of those guys were above 50% this year, so who cares.  Didn't half of these same people pick the Ravens?  Didn't 80%+ pick GB to beat NYG?  How many of them had Denver over Pitt?  IT DOESN"T MATTER!!!!!!

Vegas sets the spread in an attempt to balance the money bet on both sides so they can just earn their 5% or whatever it is.  More people bet on the Super Bowl than any other sporting event including many people who know nothing about football.  There is no financial interest in being correct about the game, but there is a financial interest in understanding the biases of the betting crowd.

Edit: To be fair it is not unheard of for a bookie to use the spread to get more people on what they perceive to be the "wrong" end of the bet, but it is very risky and not standard operating procedure.

Was this the same Vegas guy who claimed to have very reliable sources regarding the status of a certain players ankle?  If these sources are in fact "reliable"...we may be having a very fun Sunday!

Well if Vegas is trying to manipulate the public with this spread, that would only indicate that they REALLY like the Pats, as this spread clearly pushed money towards NYG.

A month ago our defense was playing pretty bad.  About middle of the pack for scoring, and near the bottom most everywhere else.  I can't blame anyone for bashing it.  They are playing much better defense now, and that has been the difference.  This is very reminiscent of the Colts lone SB year.  Their D was pretty bad, and then they got Sanders back before the playoffs and played just well enough to win.  We got a couple of players back and now they are playing respectable D.

This isn't good news for all the fans who seem so driven and empowered by the perceived dis-respect if the national media.

In the end, it doesn't really matter who picks who, or what the spread in Vegas is. That's why they play the games. These guys need something to jaw about, as NE and even the Giants to an extent don't give them much stuff to talk about. How well a team played back in the fall (or how poorly) really has little bearing. The game four years ago is totally irrelevant. Whoever plays the best on Sunday (and makes fewer mistakes) will win the game. There are enough guys on each team with the experience and leadership to keep the younger guys focused. When somebody raises the trophy Sunday night, all these opinions will have as much substance as a f a r t in the wind!

Pattern is like we saw in SB42.. Most said Pats and now the roles are reversed.  The difference being the Giants are talking like they won while the Pats are silent as usual.  There will be a lot of silence coming from pundit land Monday!
