Yeah...we talked about him on you draft post as a target. A low third isa fair price to pay for him. I don't want to count on Donald jones as a 3. I like amendola, Lloyd and sanders...good lineup with jones as the 4.

    In response to RidingWithTheKing's comment:

    Strengths
Sanders has an explosive first step and very good top-end speed to stretch the field. Drops his hips well and has the lateral agility to make plays in space after the catch. Fluid athlete who flashes big-play ability in the return game. Gutsy kid who will go across the middle and does not take plays off.

    Weaknesses
Sanders is on the short side with less-than-adequate bulk. Struggles to beat the press off the line and hold onto passes in traffic. Will not out-muscle defensive backs for jump balls and is not a red-zone target. Rounds off his routes too often and does not show the ability to use head fakes to gain separation.

    Overview
While Sanders is a slightly undersized receiver, he is certainly not timid when it comes to going over the middle and will compete for the ball. Unfortunately, his lack of size and strength makes it difficult for him to win many of those battles. He shows excellent acceleration off the line and can stretch the secondary down the seam with his vertical speed. He is confident in his hands and will reach out to pluck the ball. However, he also will drop some when he tries to make a move before securing the catch. He needs work on setting defenders up and can be a bit sloppy in his routes, but there is no reason to think he can't improve in that area. He probably fits the No. 3 or 4 receiver description more than a No. 1 or 2, but he should be able to contribute early on as a return specialist.

a da rick rogers in the third round (due to pot issue) does have the body (and height) to compete for the ball and come down with it in trafic. give me 2 big bodies in the draft. ie hopkins and rogers

One thing we know for sure. We dont want BB drafting WR's........Sanders WOULD BE A 100% GUARANTEED success ofver anyone we DRAFTED.  Grab Sanders and both Baltimore and Pittsburgh's Offenses and hampered while ours improves. Trust me, we WONT miss Welker...

well there is that. a wr pick by bb is almost a kiss of death

Fits the BB WR profile... has some deep speed, quick, good COD/RAC ability.  Liked this kid a lot leading up to the 2010 draft.

I like Sanders a lot, MB.  It would give us a guy fast enough to play outside and quick with guts enough to play inside; versatile and young!  Pats go get him!!!

Sanders is proven in the league. Da'rick rgoers is not. Sanders will require a 3rd as will da'rick, but sanders will command a higher salary. Sanders can probably contrivute right away, Rogers maybe.

I compare sanders against WR we could grab this year in round 3 possibly.although not bigger than jones or Danny, he is a good route runner n's speedy. I only do this if we can turn mallet into a pick, a 3rd rounder plus some. Otherwise, I think I look elsewhere.

I'd torn on that. Rogers might have higher upside and is bigger which I still believe the Pats need size at WR but Sanders at least proved he can be a #3 WR right now with potential to be a #2. For a 3rd that's not a bad deal. Since we got Jones though (similar to Sanders) I might roll the dice on higher upside and size personally

The 3rd rd tender at 1.5 for Sanders is similar to how Mallett would be viewed in a thin QB market.

The WR market in the draft is not deep and it's thin in FA, too.  Wallace and Bowe were overpaid wildly at 13 and 11 million.

So, instead of gambling in Rd 3 for a WR, you get someone you might like who is cheap, has experience, can be developed and a price you can control for a new deal.

Mallett is actually worth no worse than a 2nd rd pick at his price in this market.

If we didn't have Jones I'd agree but with Jones who is a similar skill set as Sanders I think you could afford to take a chance on a larger WR who has 1st round talent but is dropping because of character concerns. Is it a risk, yep but at 6'3.5" he'd make for a great red zone threat, one that Brady needs outside of Gronk. Don't forget we got stalled inside the 20's because or WR's didn't have the size to out fight for balls most of the time

    exaclty as i have it

If they trade Mallett and get a 3rd in the deal this makes more sense to me. Then a 3rd for Sanders while still keeping a 3rd I'd be for. Essentially Mallett for Sanders+ whenever else tehy get for Mallett. Sign me up for that

Sanders, Amendola, Lloyd, Gronk, Hern, Ballard, Jones.

I would guess Lloyd takes a paycut now, and then unfortunately get cut in the offseason, but I wouldn't have a problem going out with this group.

My money is on at least on of Jones/Lloyd getting cut

now here's a question, I can't remember my RFA rules. If Mallett gets traded and the Pats get a 3rd does Pitt get the Pats 3rd, the highest 3rd, or the highest 3rd at the time the contract is signed? In otherwords say the Pats get Clev's 3rd but after Sanders is signed does PItt get our 3rd or potentially Clev's?

Here's another thought what if the Pitt knows they won't match and the Pats offer Lloyd instead of the 3rd in a trade for Sanders. Would you guys do that?

    Pitt has cap problems.

Pitt also probably prefers the pick over Lloyd

Well they are restructuring Lloyds contract. If they get it down to 1.5mil (same as Sanders tender I believe) then cap won't be an issue because the numbers match up and they get a prvoe WR to replace Sanders vs the #90 pick

Would Lloyd restructure if he was getting traded though?  The only reason he would restructure imo is because he wants to stay in NE.

If we reverse this to the Patriots,

I would prefer a third round pick over Lloyd. And I'm sure most fans in general will feel the same. Lloyd cant stay on a team for more than two years. 3rd round picks are treated like silver.
