For all those complaining we didnt get Brian Cushing last year:

The NFL announced Friday that Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing received a four-game suspension for violating its policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Cushing, the 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, can practice with the team and play in preseason games. However, he will miss regular-season contests against the Indianapolis Colts (home), Washington Redskins (road), Dallas Cowboys (home) and Oakland Raiders (road). He'll be eligible to return for an Oct. 10 home game against the New York Giants.

Kevin Bentley is the backup at outside linebacker, but the Houston Chronicle reported that Zac Diles will move from the weak side to replace Cushing for four games. Xavier Adibi, a third-year veteran, or Darryl Sharpton, a fourth-round draft pick out of Miami, will take Diles' spot.

"We were disappointed to learn that Brian has been suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season," Texans general manager Rick Smith said in a statement released by the team. "Brian is a productive member of our team and this is a significant loss, but we have to be prepared to win without him."

Cushing was hounded by rumors of steroid use before he became a pro, but the Texans were undeterred and drafted him 15th overall last year. They said then that they found no truth to those rumors during their draft preparations, and Cushing strongly denied at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine that he had used performance-enhancers.

"I don't understand where it is coming from," Cushing told NFL.com. "I was tested last December at USC and passed, one of several tests I have passed. I was tested this morning here at the combine and those results should be out in a couple of weeks to a month, I believe. I think people are trying to find something, anything, that would detract from what I have done on the field. You learn in life if it's not one thing, it's the other. I hope once I pass the test here that this will be put behind me. I'm really hoping for that."

Cushing had promoted a Friday night appearance on NFL Network's NFL Total Access on his Facebook page before posting the following message Friday afternoon: "Had to cancel NFL Network and all other interviews due to a family emergency. Heading to airport to fly back to NJ to be with the fam."

Cushing didn't provide any further details about the emergency. He's from New Jersey and had been in school in California this week.

Cushing posted 134 tackles, four sacks, four interceptions and two forced fumbles while helping Houston go 9-7 -- the first winning record in franchise history. He was a runaway winner over Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd in NFL Defensive Player of the Year balloting. However, Bills safety Donte Whitner suggested Friday on Twitter that the honor be stripped from Cushing.

I agree but at the same time, hindsight is always 20/20. If we didn't draft him, from what I know it wasn't because of character issues.

And also, I would withhold judgment of drafting certain players until we see how our own Aaron Hernandez pans out.

It doesn't faze me one way or another as too whether BB didn't draft any of the USC players Matthews,Malaluga or Cushing. None of them fit his criteria of the size he wants at either the ILB or the OLB. Also Brace wasn't prepared to play in the Patriots scheme as a DT/NT,I think if they try him at the 5 technique DE he might be successful. Lets put it this way Raji wasn't the heart and soul of the BC Defense when they both came out,They had Herzelich playing a madman version of OLB....

People get all freaked out when any of these recent LB's the Pats passed on turn into good players.  Truth is, most of them end up playing in a completely different scheme than the Pats run so there's no way to say what they would be able to do in NE.

    FYI,
he was picked at #15, way ahead of where Pats were scheduled to pick. So he was never a factor. It's like saying that we are glad we passed on JPP in this year's draft if he falls into trouble. It's a moot's point!

Who cares. At least half the NFL is on Roids. It's just that most of them are smart enough to do the new good ones that can't be detected. As far as Cushing goes the only way the Patriots could have got him was to trade up and that was never going to happen.

I've been a weight lifter all my life and I'll tell yeah if you've ever been up close to a NFL field during training camp or something, take one look at these guys and you have to think alot of them have experimented with the juice at one point or another. These guys are covered from head to toe with muscle and they are cut too. I understand that they are one of a kind athletes and I'm sure some are huge and strong without  much effort and others are very dedicated, but you'd have to be really niave to think the average person can get that big, strong and fast naturally. A guy like Cushing looks like he needs to use it more than the others to stay competitive and I'm sure it won't be long until he starts have career threatening type injuries.

The Patriots could not have drafted LB Brian Cushing unless they traded up. The Patriots had the 23rd overall selection in the 2009 draft...and Cushing was selected with the 15th overall pick by the Houston Texans.

In discussing that draft, I pointed out that there were various rumours floating around about Cushing being on 'roids. For that reason, I did not want to see him in a Patriots' uniform. Nonetheless, Cushing went on to become the 2009 NFL rookie of the year.

Cushing joins two other NFL defensive rookies of the year, Julius Peppers and Shawne Merrimam, who had similar problems. Merriman and, to a lesser extent, Peppers, haven't been the same defensive terrors since they were forced by the league to let loose of the juice. It remains to be seen if Cushing's play regresses at all: http://blogs.chron.com/nfl/

Cushing, and the Minnesota "Williams Wall" (DTs Kevin and Pat Williams) will miss the first four games of their teams' respective season.

Wow, You're smarter than everybody else here! The only problem is we could have never Gotten Cushing or are you advocating we should have traded up so that you could insult everyone here. I was just looking at your future draft picks for a year down the road. Have you done your urinalysis test on them yet. LOL. You're an idiot.Quit posting or go to a colts forum where there are more idiots like you.

he always seemed like a roid guy. mathews jr even more. i'm guessing he's the next to get suspended, or he stopped taking them and his career will take a nosedive. those obviously arent the types of players the pats want...that being said, they still need more young linebackers to develop. it probably would have been better if they had taken a more off the radar player at the position last year (similar to this year, or similar to mckenzie at the ILB position) so could have two young players to work with rather than one.
however...i still think mckenzie could be a dark horse at OLB. he's played the position before and i think he could be a roman phifer type player. if he can prove he's healthy of course.

We know u are the troll colts fan.
Actually, I never was for Cushing and posted this for those that screamed we should have gotten him.  But you are not smart enough to figure that out obviously.  As far as my future draft goes, and u not liking it.  Dont care, you are meaningless.  And I have yet to see your wonderful draft acumen exhibited on that board.  Go back to grade school if u are smart enough to qualify.
