"If Gronk stays healthy" - what do you mean, if Gronk stays healthy, he is not healthy currently.

Hall and Oates are a really bad comparison, they always appeared on stage together and Gronk and Hernandez have not been able to do that.

Simon and Garfunkel is the better comparison, those guys have a huge amount of trouble getting on the stage together.

But yeah, if our two tight ends are healthy, look out.

That said if our running backs can't hang on to the ball then we have other issues....

Gronk and Hern play different positions on the field. Hern is better at getting separation, plays in slot or X slot a lot more, sometimes starts in half-back, and often manages to make first tackle miss to get good yards after catch. Gronk is a better blocker, runs better routes up the middle, is a monster in the red zone with fade-away throws and better at deceiving linebackers about whether he's blocking or catching (probably because he's a better blocker). It's different positions, Hernandez is actually misused when he's forced to play Gronk's role which is why we bring in Fells or Homanamanui instead of making Hern play that role. Hern is more like a slot receiver than a tight-end and since market rates for receivers are MUCH MUCH higher in the NFL right now, he's a steal. Same for Gronk.

BB realized in the end of the day you're paying $s for catches and TDs. Why pay $8m for a good but not elite receiver when you can get same or better production and more flexibility from paying to 2 elite TEs. In the end of the day Brady will find the open TEs for catches same as he finds receivers. They are both great. We're lucky to have them both for the duratiion of Brady's remaning career and hence are secure in having good offensive production for next 5 years.

As for their contract comparison, it's very similar. Yeah Hernandez has a few more guaranteed but Gronk's ramps up more near the end. And since I already said they are both a steal at current rates, Gronk will get paid that rate as it ramps up as he will only get more valuable. If more offenses shift to TE-heavy sets copying the Pats then the markets rates for TEs might rise relative to receivers making these deals look even cheaper. So guaranteed money is essentially meaningless in those scenarios barring injury.
