how many wins for COLTS before talk starts that they CHEATED last year by intentionally losing

Remember last year everyone joking about "sukk for luck"...  It was widely speculated that this was an accepted strategy for Indy .

Pundits criticized  openly teams that won games and hurt their draft position .

why is losing on purpose to cheat the system and secure a great player not exposed as such.

is it not worse than losing to collect a bet from Vegas....?  Luck pays off for 10 years plus.  Quite the scam....

    after loss 1 last year

We all knew that they did and their team was not nearly as bad as they made it out to be. I mean really how do you go from a playoff team to the worst team in the league to suddenly a playoff team again in a 3 year streak?

Waaaaa... We lost Peyton... We forgot how to block tackle, coach, run, catch...  In a league of parity, why did we lose so many games...?

They went from 10-6 in 2010 to  OH AND THIRTEEN with polian, Caldwell, freeney, Brackett and many other seasoned players.

they secured #1 pick for  first time since 1998... Let's see who did they draft that year ?  How did that work out...?  Hmmm... Maybe follow same formula ... Ya think...?

you can't change the results but it would be nice to have this exposed for what it is.

It might have been at least a considered arguement (if not still unreasonable) if the team looked, this year, anything like it did last year.  Offensively it is incredibly different.  Defensively, we are using many of the same personnel that were drafted or picked up to run a 4-3 tampa 2 style defense and this year they are playing a 3-4.  Unfortunately, the lack of success last year on defense continues this year.

Well . . .  I think simply allowing Caldwell to continue coaching was all it really took to acheive the necessary ineptitude to secure the first pick, and yes, that is tanking of a kind. But I have trouble believing that you could actually convince enough players -- who have been playing this game all their lives and for many of whom it is literally all they know -- to forget a lifetime of training and simply go out and embarass themselves in front of the world for . . .   what . . .   the greater glory of the Irsays?

    Sorry.

I'm just having trouble swallowing that.

Re: how many wins for COLTS before talk starts that they CHEATED last year by intentionally losing

The hoosier state has endured a caldwell like coaching experience before.  Some here might call it the Davis rule when after Bob Knight was fired, Davis took his team to the NCAA final game the following year and set a path to future failure through poor coaching.

But I'll agree and said as much last year.  Further, players play for continued employment and enrichment given that the NFL does not guarantee contracts.  To suggest, these players might intentionally play to lose and jeopardize their future employment is illogical.

Happens all the time, in many sports, Celtics did it in 2007 trying to get Greg Oden/Kevin Durant...

But to answer your question, here in NE, that number was bewtween 0 and 1.  Because everyone knows that a number one pick in the draft sure can't make a difference to the quality of a team and it's win total.  At least that's what Sam Bradford and Jake Long told me.  And the fact that 4 of the Colts wins are by 4 points or less and they've been thumped by Chicago and the Jets really shows that they tanked it last year.

If I forgot to mention it before, you all, collectively, are idiots.

thanks for making my point for me...  What was the record of those teams that drafted #1 the prior 2years?  Has there ever been a team that made playoffs, then got #1 pick after 1 year?  Its hard to do unless you lose intentionally .

in fact Indy made playoffs for 9 consecutive seasons leading up to their cheating year in the tank.  that's called a culture of winning , a habit of winning, knowing how to win.

if you look down the list of #1 picks, they go to perennial losers and it takes years and more picks to turn it around.  The Indy tank year is unique and unprecedented cheating .

OR - it shows you just how much the colts relied on Peyton Manning.  Certainly something that you do not wish to hear about as it anything Manning related hurts your personal sensibilities.

Lets forget about how Manning overcame incredibly poor offensive line play with the exception of Jeff Saturday in recent years.  Lets forget about all of the other injuries beyond Manning last year (Indy lost more starter games to injury last year than any other team in the league).  Lets forget that even this board has correctly assessed that Indy's defense has been poor in recent memory.  Lets forget that even this board thought indy's head coach lacked head coaching abilities.

Lest you not forget these things but rather remember and combine them as ingredients to the perfect storm they were, you have the recipie for the awful season they had.

If you prefer, however, you can continue your Sgt Schultz impersonation.  "I know nothing".

Re: how many wins for COLTS before talk starts that they CHEATED last year by intentionally losing

Want to make million bucks.... Here's your book title :

"tankgate: how Colts shrewdly bumbled and cheated their way to secure Andrew Luck"

included will be the clever 4th quarter fumbles that lost close games, the utter lay downs (62-7) to good teams like the saints, their habitual  no-shows in 2nd half of games and the final dramatic must-lose game of the season against Jacksonville ...

what a great feelgood story.  You can't put it down .
