Posted by UD6
Neh...don't care as much about the hotels. I'd rather see the exhibits and etc. Thanks for the info.....I take back everything I ever said about you...LOL :-)

Don't take it back.  I am still not a pats fan, and I'll pis you off soon enough, but as I said, Indy's putting on a party.  You are the guests of honor, and we must be gracious to our guests.

I love my city and I love it being shown in a positive light.

Best parking I heard was on the rooftop of Bankers Life Fieldhouse (formerly Conseco - where the pacers play) for $6.  You are on the opposite side of all of the festivities, but if you are able to walk through the fieldhouse, then when you come out the other side you are right at the end of the festivities.

There's a music stage in front of the fieldhouse and I think an xbox (or something) exhibit.  Then you've got 4 blocks down Georgia street (right in front of the fieldhouse) of festivities to the convention center where the zipline and the NFL experience are located.  Lots of stuff in between. Half way in between is Meridian and 2 blocks to the north is the circle where the roman numerals are.  Just to the south 1 block of the convention center is the stadium.

You'll have a good time if you come.

I just rolled out of bed. Can barely believe this weather.  Trap this for the next 5 days. Thanks.  I saw there was a petition to open the roof for the game.  Won't happen, but the fact that there is one even is some sort of fantastic.

Well they will play an outdoor sb in NY in a couple of years, but I don't actually think the stadium is set up to be an outdoor stadium unless the weather is perfect.

Sunday does not appear to be what today is.  Enjoy.  Weather is supposed to turn by the weekend, but still highs in the 40s.  Won't even feel that with a few beers in the system and added to those still in the system from the days before.

Yeah, I know LOS has no drainage system, so even when there's a 15-20% chance of any type of precipitation, they close it.  I guess thems the brakes.  Still, 40s isn't worth complaining about.  It's January.  Probably as good as anyone could ask for.  It's supposed to hover around 50 until the weekend, which is jim dandy as far as I'm concerned.  That's t-shirt weather.

tshirt weather for northerners and heavy drinkers.  Get ya drink on.

May I suggest Scotty's as a nice place to grab some good beers very large selection.  I recommend trying a Bells Two Hearted Ale if you like IPA's.  Out of Michigan.  Great beer.  they have it on tap.  Also, try Sun King (local Indy) or Three Floyds (out of Munster Indiana (chicago suburb))

On Pennsylvania (street that the fieldhouse is on - pacers arena), about 1 block north of the fieldhouse, just south of Washington st.  In a bldg, just off a plaza.  Entrance faces the north so if you are coming from the fieldhouse you won't see it until you reach it.  Big tent in the plaza (if I recall).

UD6, With all this good info and being such a kind host to us, how will you ever get back to that hated status you once had?

I am very impressed. I understand why you would root for the Gmen, its no biggie.  It Tommy had a brother playing the Colts, I would do the same.

    Have fun!

Sun King's pretty good UD.  Agree.  I had Flat 12 IPA last night, which is a local fare.  That was okay.  Never have had it.

Not that you're asking me, but Wild Beaver blows I think.  Good call on Bynum's.  Lotta people just go to St. Elmo's b/c it has that name recognition, but it's not the best steakhouse in town.  They have the best bloody mary's though, if you're into a little Hair of the Dog.

    Go Patriots!

I don't wish for the hated status.  Its just that when pats fans are being intentionally obtuse, I will respond in kind, and that usually sends the board ablather.

For example, someone was calling out Irsay as a drinker.  I'd heard here and other places that Kraft liked to indulge himself. Said as much, and the board wet itself out of shock.  BFD.  you know.

Look, I come to this board as a regular.  You guys are representing in my town.  Its only appropriate that I give my insight should anyone choose to come and celebrate.  To 99% of this board's population, I bear no animosity.  I have to be able to take what I give.  That said, 1% are just a*ses.

And frankly, and this is odd, because I frequent this board and you guys are representing in my town.  It gives me something to talk about of relevance to you.

Russ, good to know that the word has gotten out and they are able to distribute further away.

The belgian you are talking about is their Oberon which was the first of theirs that I tried.  I love it in the summer.

Bynums is fine.  Kind of a local workingman's steakhouse in a blue collar area just south of downtown.  Its not St. Elmos or anyone of the prime steakhouses (Mortons, Ruths Chris, etc.) although I'll bet they'll have prime on their menu this week.  I am sure you'll like it just fine.  Glad you are hitting a local establishment in the face of all of the prime steakhouses.

Have not been to the wild beaver although you just can't miss it down there.  As I have aged, my bar days have dwindled.  Kilroys is a bar of local lore out of Bloomington (home of IU), who has opened in Indy in the past few years.

I would imagine that most bars will have the same feeling this week.  they'll be packed to the gills.  One good thing about the wild beaver is that it is very close to the concert stage at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

I think I'd drink that bloody mary with a shrimp cocktail if you really want to clear yourself out.  That said, I'd also try MO's Shrimp cocktail (its all about the sauce) and their is damn good.

Mo's is a very nice steakhouse.  Recommend.  blue cheese fried oysters, quite good.
Agree. St Elmo's is overrated. Still good, but the trendier of the two. As a suggestion, there is a really good 24 hour diner on Meridian, just south of the Hard Rock cafe, sort of near where the Howl at the Moon piano bar is (if that thing is still there). I am sure Undies can come up with the name of it. It's on the right hand side, going south on Meridian, I think. Edit: It was called The Red Eye Cafe, but it's apparently closed. However, the same owners apparently opened up a place called Broad Ripple Brew Pub, but sure it's 24 hours, so there you go.
    Posted by RustyGriswold
Brew Pub's been around for about 15 years.  Has become a broad ripple staple off the main drag, but Broad ripple is a 15 minute cab ride uptown.  Lots of bars, lots of local restaurants, young crowd.  Fun.

Yes - strong beer.  But not a belgian ale.  It's definitely an IPA.

get your a&s to town Russ.  Overpay.  Your team is playing, and I can't imagine, even if not at the game, that you could conjur a better place to win an SB - unless of course they did it in the Jets/giants house (which will be available in a couple of years.)
