Is our defense really good?.........or was it the Jets and the weather?

were the last two games a good barometer of our defense? I keep seeing alot of comments about how improved they look.....but I"m hesitant to make that statement just yet.

Too early to tell on either account in my opinion.

I think our defense really is better than it has been in the previous years, and is trending in the right direction.  With that being said, playing the Geno Smith led Jets in a monsoon will help and defense look better than they really are.  They are getting better all the time, but they aren't an elite unit just yet.  That's not to say they won't get there...

    Apparently it was our secondary:

    1. All four of the Patriots’ sacks could be classified as those generated by good coverage. Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly’s first sack as a Patriot, which came with 10:05 remaining in the third quarter as he was aligned as a five-technique (over the tackle instead of an interior position), was an example of this. Kelly was initially pushed past the pocket by right tackle Austin Howard before angling back to bring down quarterback Geno Smith. It is often said that a successful defense marries together the pass rush and coverage and the Patriots had their moments in that area Thursday night. - Reiss

No, yes and maybe. The defense is manageable, but they won't win you the game. So yes, they're as good as we've seen them.

They're not a 15 PPG defense like they're averaging now good though, they're more 20 PPG IMHO. So no, they're not that good in that aspect.

And maybe, Buffalo and The Jets aren't exactly high powered. We'll have to wait until week 4 to see just how good they really are.

Oddly enough, this defense wins the SB in 2011 against the Giants.

The defense has given up (3) TD's in 8 quarters, one of which was due to NE's offense providing Buffalo with a short field... the other (2) were sustained drives, so credit to the offenses on those.  So they're essentially doing what they should do against bad offenses and while they're not a finished product, it's hard to watch this D and not see improvement all over the place.
