[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Jared Allen : Which is my point-who's to say that Allen wouldn't pull the same thing if he was a Pat? If one traded three or four players or draft picks to get a guy that could be another Thomas, is that a good thing?

Well honestly I think you have to look at it a few of ways. 1. How old is the player and what is his injury history. 2. What is the scheme he will be playing in?
3. What do we have to give up?
I think Allen is 30 or close, so realistically he's not going to give you much more...although he is still beyond productive. If you look at the history of pass rushers (unless you are just a speed rusher) you still can produce. So there is a gamble there.
When looking at scheme, you have to ask yourself..are we going to put this guy in a 34? Because if you are, then you'd be setting him up for failure. Kind of like what happened to Thomas...they had him playing a different thing every single year.
Really it (along with everything in football) is a gamble, but guys like him don't grow on trees. If we're playing more of a 43 then he would do wonders for our defense. There is a very small window of opportunity here with Brady and just like the Thomas acquisition, if it goes wrong it won't derail your franchise. I'd be tempted to give up a first for him, only because we've seen what some higher picks turn out like...Maroney, Merrieweather, Butler, Brace, Wheatly...you can even look at guys that may turn out ok, but aren't helping you right now..Vareen, Rasi-Dowling, Cunningham, Vollmer. A sure thing is better than the alternative sometimes, even it only lasts a couple of seasons.
