Re: jason babin? fill in for cunningham being out?

Philly followers have been saying Babin's play has deteriorated and part of the reason for his past high sack totals had to do with his selling out on the pass rush to the extent that his vacated area was getting gashed on the ground .

Also - many of his sacks were due to Trent Cole routinely flushing opposing Qbs his way .

    He's got 5.5 sacks and a meager 21 tackles with only 1 tackle for a loss .

    ( 2 forced fumbles though )

Word on the street is that his current skillset might reduce him to being just a 3rd down pass rush specialist.

I think Babin would find his game again if he were to come here. The Eagles are lousy and going nowhere, guys are more or less waiting to end the season. Going from there to a team like the Patriots has a way of motivating a player. He's got the skills, wanting to play for a winner would light a fire under him IMO .

That's pretty much what I've been hearing. As a 3rd down pass rushing specialist across from Jones that would be great but it's an awful lot of money for a pass rushing specialist to replace Cunningham.

Of course if he clears waivers then all bets are off as he could sign a rental contract with the Pats to have a shot at the SB and hit FA next year. Not that would be the best case scenerio and has a shot of happening if no one claims him

    Sorry PatsEng ...

Rusty has already corrected me about the perception that Babin is now relegated to being an expensive - yet not very productive - pass rush specialist .

You then , like myself ...

     Are mistaken .

New " word on the street " is that because everybody in Philly is clearly wrong -

The Pats should make a waiver claim for him .

    That is all.

If he did clear waivers BB would sign him IMO. Babin says he wants to play for a winner so the Patriots would be a good fit. Adding Talib was huge and BB will do anything he thinks will improve the team.

Because of the cap situation of contending teams, Babin might clear waivers. But, the Pats won't be the only team interested. Green Bay, Baltimore, Atlanta, Washington, and Dallas would all be interested in landing Babin. The Packers are without Clay Mathews, and rookie Nick Perry due to injury, Baltimore could use another pass rusher tto help out the less than 100% Terrell Suggs, Atlanta badly needs someone to rush the passer. Washington has suffered injuries to Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan, and Dallas needs a compliment to DeMarcus Ware.

La Canfora also mentioned, besides Atlanta, - the Ravens, Colts and Browns don't plan on putting in a claim for babin.

Looks like his contract can be negiotable after he clears waivers....we'll see.
