Manti Te'o GF death a hoax?

    http://deadspin.com/5976517/manti-teos-dead-girlfriend-the-most-heartbreaking-and-inspirational-story-of-the-college-football-season-is-a-hoax

Wow, not sure how true this is but it is pretty thorough.

If it's true, this guy probably becomes one of my least favorite players in the league.

Really interested in how this all turns out.

Jets will probably trade up for this guy.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I just read the article and it seemed pretty thorough.

Apparently ND will be making a statement about it soon. We'll find out more I guess.

Below is ND's official public response to the topic:

    Notre Dame Statement: Manti Te'o

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te'o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

I mean...Manti loved this girl sooooooo much, but never saw the signs of leukemia in her? I've seen people with advanced leukemia...you cannot fake it. Manti, a Heisman Trophy candidate, wasn't asked to attend the funeral?

    Give me a freaking break.

Manti invented, and/or advanced, the hoax.

i woudl suspect this over teh alternative.

given the whoel deal, regradless which is true, if i were an organization i woudol shy away, whichever accoutn is true. both would reveal huge emotional and psychological issues. these portend possible future behavior and decsion making issues that could be big or small.

    Here's their subsequent statement:

On January 16, Notre Dame determined that Assistant Vice President Dennis Brown, linebacker Manti Te'o and others were involved in a sordid and complex conspiracy involving the feigned death of a fictitious woman named Lennay Kekua.  Mr. Brown, Mr. Te'o and their co-conspirators apparently lead the University and the football world to believe that the fictitious Ms. Kekua had tragically died of leukemia when in fact, Ms. Kekua never actually existed. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax, and entrusted Dennis Brown to lead that investigation, having no basis for believing that Mr. Brown might have been involved in any way. However, when Mr. Brown issued his statement on the matter, others at the University became suspicious and began a separate investigation which ultimately revealed the self-serving nature of the prior statement and the depth of the conspiracy. Mr. Brown has been placed on temporary leave pending further investigation.  Mr. Te'o's name has been removed from Mel Kiper's Big Board.  That is all.

A good Mormon man, adored by the media and fans, manages to place himself in the Heisman conversation, and largely due to his emotional struggles. And he turns out to be a lying, immoral fraud.

My sources say Blather set up Brown with the false story and be the patsy so that he could assume control.  It's kind of surprising that Blather found a job so soon after falling from grace at Penn. State communications.
