    Matt Roth is the Answer!

The Dolphins would certainly be up for a trade concerning Matt Roth as they are happy with Rookie Cameron Wake.

Matt Roth is everything the Pats would be looking for in a defensive player, his injury issue is up to debate as he was trying to get a new contract(low cap hit)  before the start of the season.  Despite being on IR, he can be traded before the deadline if the Dolphins wish(read sun sentinel article).  Roth would be worth a 2nd rd pick if completely healthy.

Unless you are a Dolphins fan, you may not be to familar with DE/LB Matt Roth.
Here's some info:  6'3 278 and a very fast 4.8 and 27yrs old.  He's speciality is stuffing the run and getting to the QB.  In 2008, Matt moved from DE to OLB for the Phins 3-4 defense.

Even though the Pats would have to trade in the division, giving up a high pick(2nd) for Roth would be worth it.

As long as you've seen him play 3-4 OLB, I'll take your word for it.

4.8 isn't particularly fast for an OLB in coverage, and 6'3 278 has me thinking he'd be best as a pass rushing DE in a 4-3 or strictly blitzer on the outside in the 3-4.  If he could get pressure on the QB, that's what the Patriots need most, but I'd worry about his versatility and it seems like the Pats already have 3 or 4 roster spots tied up with DE/OLB-pass-rush specialists (Burgess, Banta-Cain, and Ninkovich)

It sounds like Matt Roth would be somewhat of an experiment considering how complex BB's defense is and his lac of prototypcal speed to get back in coverage, so trading a 2nd rounder for him might be a little too high for BB. I think the dolphins would pull the trigger on that trade in a heart beat. You guys said this is his last year on his contract? Why not wait til hes a free agent?

Too bad he isn't in the NFC. No way the phins trade him to an AFC east rival, especially us.

I believe this is the last year of his contract, and their is a chance the phins don't active him, according to the sen-sentinel they have a 21 day timeline:

"Starting next Tuesday, the Dolphins would then have a 21-day period (through Nov. 10) in which to start practicing Roth again. With that first practice a new 21-day clock would begin on Roth, at the end of which the team would either have to restore him to the active roster or be forced to leave him on the reserve list for the remainder of the season."

The Pats might be able to do it for less than a 2nd, but I just picked that number based on what I think he would be worth for the Pats.  So a deal, even in the division could be very easily accomplished.

The Pats could really use him right now, the 2nd rd pick is just as high as I would go of course, very likely the Pats could have him for less.  He's already a proven defensive player at both DE/LB.   Here's what he did to our boy Brady a few years ago:
"On December 10 against the New England Patriots, he had three tackles including 1.5 sacks for a total of 10.5 yards in losses, tackling quarterback Tom Brady for a five-yard loss and sharing an 11-yard sack of Brady with defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday."
