Pass Rush?

    Pass Rush?

I can't understand why the Patriots didn't address this pressing need in the offseason. They saw their high flying pass happy offense derailed by a great pass rush in 2007 but they continue to go with a vanilla defense. BB knows defense wins championships. Today they allowed Kyle Orton a career high passing day. I know Brady and the offense were off in the second half and Ghosts missed field goal hurt but there are no playmakers on D.

    Re: Pass Rush?

It's a vanilla defense FOR NOW. The scheme is complex and you can't hand it all to a bunch of rookies and young players. Bill was slowly unleasing the defense. It wasn't going to be lights out but it was going to get better.

Today, we SEEM like we took a step back but everyone's forgetting that we saw an entirely new offensive look in the Wild Horses. You can't blitz and be overly aggressive when a) they have the personnel to run that set and b) we've never seen what it can do.

Teams save these things for us.

    Re: Pass Rush?

They did address the pass rush in the offseason.  They got Derrick Burgess.  They also addressed the needs at TE and WR with Alex Smith, Chris Baker, and Joey Gone-away.  And they finally filled the long-term RB problem with Fred Taylor.  In addition, they drafted future special teamer Patrick Chung.  Too bad Kevin McHale isn't the GM for the Vikings.  We could have traded Moron-ey, Terence Nunn, Chung, and Merriweather for Adrian Peterson.
