Nice. Can't trade compensatory picks but they got the highest possible compensation for the players they lost. Now six of the top 100 selections. Damn.

    Please dont ever whine again. Favoritism? Turner had a way better year than Asante at their respective positions. SD should've gotten the 3rd a you the 4th. Or at least both 3rd's, what a farce!
It ahs to do with salary and not performance. Asante makes more so he nets a higher pick. I believe the rules are pretty transparent in this regard.

    Two points of agreement....the 4th for Turner must be based on the size of contract...its a good compensatory pick..we know the Pats will be trading picks and getting #97 would seem to put #89 in play for a trade....for starters ..

    Divided by six it is. While it is clear that contract plays a part, it isn't exact. I think there is a cutoff based on annual salary that is somewhere in the seven million per season range.

    I don't know if the system is off. How "on" should it be. SD just got a free 4th rounder for making a huge mistake in letting that kid go.

    Agreed. Though the actual formula is a secret, it's been reported numerous times that much of the decision is based on the amount of money the FA signed for, thus, since Turner signed for less than Asante, the Chargers were given less. But I think we can all agree the Chargers definitely deserved a 3rd.
The picks are awarded according to salary and playing time, not production. Samuel's new contract was $56 million I think
I dont think it is all about salary. I think some of it has to do with how productive that player was for his former team. In that regard, I think the picks are fairly reflective of both players worth. Although he was very productive for San Diego, Turner had his break out year with Atlanta. Assante was a Pro-bowl player for New England, and a huge part of our team.

    No doubt, expect lots of wheeling and dealing draft day. The Pats are gonna use some of this year's picks to leverage higher picks or additional picks in the future. Or they'll move up. Should be a dizzying draft day.

    Asante = STARTER

    Turner = back-up
    The guy on the bench in the play-offs is your starter
    But it's the contract that decides.

    Maybe if Smith wasn't an idiot he would have kept Turner and let Tomlinson go (trade while his value was still high). Right now Dimitroff looks like a better GM than Smith (Ryan will be better than Rivers. Turner was better than LT).
