no way...49ers never lost a Super Bowl

WTF? So teams that choke in the playoffs are better than teams that actually make the Super Bowl?

what? 49ers in the 80's and 90's were 5-0 in SB

as Montana was 11 TD 0 INT

neither Pats nor Brady can claim that so no Pats are not the 49ers of the 80's and 90's
No you idiot he was referring to the fact that if NE wins another SB Brady has 4.  Montana may be 4-0 but he only went to 4.  You think he preferred those seasons they didn't make it at all to making it and losing?

Montana would have preferred playing in the Super Bowl every year.

The 80's and 90's 49er teams were great. Like the article states, the 49ers are the only team New England is chasing when it comes to sustained, unstinting excellence over more than a decade.

I would put the old 49ers ahead of the Patriots slightly but I don't think you can penalize a team for not winning every Super Bowl they play in. Just making the Super Bowl is a big deal.

Can you imagine if there was no salary cap for the Pats like there was for those 49er teams?  We keep Seymour, McGinest, Law, Asante etc.

Belichick is a master of the salary cap so maybe there would be no Super Bowls without one? Who knows, this is an apples vs oranges argument to begin with.

Yeah and Niners still s--k for losing to the '85 Bears......and 90s Cowpokes. Right Gints if you really take a closer look. NFL basically mandates parity. You need a shrewd GM and a great coach to even come close to making it to the SB in successive seasons.

Never evaluate a player's career until its over. Don't go much for the GOAT arguments everyone has the own opinions and bias.

I think there is a parallel , suprised there is not more talk about Montana / Walsh in their day being just as dominant as Brady / Belichick are today.

If you need to have EXACT then you might as well not compare any two teams ever. The word Pedant comes to mind.

well, yeah you do...but tom brady and a perrenially bad division kind of mutes that a bit

and if there is parity as u say then one can say the pats have never had to face a team like the great steelers cowboys packers 49ers etc of the past which makes their run very much a product of their competition not their greatness

as for ant GOAT stuff i really dont compare eras
Seems to me that the Patriots have had some pretty good competition in the AFC in the last decade or so.  The Steelers have been a strong team, and I seem to recall that the Colts were a very competitive team under Peyton Manning.

When the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year they will have passed the Niners.  The haters won't admit it but we are seeing the greatest run in NFL history with these Patriots. It's going to continue for several more years too. Brady wants to keep playing and he's shown no sign of decline.
