    Patriot's Opened at -2.5?

The only thing I have learned about spreads is that the books have taken quite a bit of my cash over the years....that being said can someone explain how the heck the Pats opened at 2 1/2 point favorites over NO???

Pat's favored? Yeah, unfortunately it is a mystery with the way our beloved Pats are playing right now........

Yeah, I would say its probably they are at home and rarely lose there, while the saints clearly play better in the dome. Perhaps they are also anticipating the return of Gronk and a pats offense that won't lay an egg 2 weeks in a row. NO is deadly, but the pats could win this game.

Why shouldn't the Patriots be favored? The Saints are not the 85 Bears. The Saints struggled at Tampa Bay. They allowed 434 yards to the Bears last week in their win.

I think you overrate the competition and underrate the Patriots.

I'd have put Saints at -1.5 (favored).  But I guess that's why I'm not a casino mogul, just a schlub of a fan!

Red Sox in 2013 World Series, Patriots in 2014 Super Bowl!

I can only assume that because we have a defense now, they assume we will keep it close. I stopped trying to figure it out. Its about getting people to bet so they can lose...lol

I really hope this is sarcasm! Just because the Pats are at home, they shouldn't be automatically favoured. I'm a Pats fan but the reality is the Saints are a solid 5-0 while the Pats are a very suspect 4-1. If the Pats can't beat the Bengals, how do you expect them to beat the Saints?

If teams are comparable HOME team always gets 3 points so the line indicates NO being favored by 1/2 point--if this makes any sense--remember the bookies just want even money--50-50 that way they pay out half and get their VIG at 10 % on the other half--My Aunt was a bookie back in DA Day. No Names being mentioned!

If the Patriots play horribly like they did last week and the Saints play flawlessly like they did last week then I would not expect the Patriots to beat the Saints this week. But last week does not define these Patriots.

Brady rarely has bad games two weeks in a row. He will bounce back and play well and so will the receivers. The defense will again be solid. It will be a close game. I think the Patriots will pull it out.

Usually, the line start with three points being given to the home team. Basically, they are saying that the two teams are even. Always remember that lines are not designed to predict the outcome of games, just to try to keep the amount of money bet on each side of the line equal.

    Re: Patriot's Opened at -2.5?

spreads are based on more than who they think will win, it is more based on getting people to bet   If the Pats make the SB they would give up more than they should. NE has been the best brand name in betting for some time.

The over under is 49.. That means they are calling something starting at 26 1/2 to 23. they give the home team 3pts so they are really saying that on a neural fld NO would win and in NO the Saints would be favored by 41/2" Given that NO has 2 good wins ,Mia and Chicago,  the Pats have none, looked bad against cin, and The Pats  have lost at home In the Playoffs,It's rare that           a 4-1 team shouldn't be favored at home, but taking the Pats giving 21/2 is a lot. Especially since tha pats are last in red zone Offense
