Any stats on how many times the zero catches gang was targeted?

    I can't find it.

A tight end wish zero catches in a Tom Brady offense is bad news.

Thomkins looks like crap and where the heck is Dobson.  Danny A. and Edelman isn't enough, the Pats better start looking for some WR's fast, otherwise Buffalo is the only team there are going to beat.

What does this even mean? There is no one available at this time. This is the group of WR's the team will go with, and with Gronk coming back that should loosen some things up.

I said it in camp. Look for upside with these guys. Who is playing well at the end of the year? I said Dobson, Boyce, Sudfeld and then Thompkins....

Re: Pats better get on the waiver wire for some WR's

Amendola was simply amazing and showed real guts, heart, and skill.  But, I'm deeply concerned about that groin pull.  It takes weeks for those things to work themselves out and I can see already he isn't going to get the rest he needs.  Short week this week with Thurs game, could spell trouble with that kind of injury.

As for the rooks, this is what I kind of expected.  Thomkins will need some time out there working at real game speed and meshing with Brady.  Dobson had a bad hammy, so hopefully he can get out there soon because he's going to need reps to get a mesh going as well.

I don't think either has been questioned as much as his durability has.

Can only go by what I saw, Thompkins got no seperation and what TE's, Sudfeld is playing like an undrafted rookie FA.

    [/QUOTE]

I will take the win. The UDFAs look like that. Thompkins was target 14 times for his 4 catches. Sudfeld was non-existant. I hope the weak schedule the first three weeks allows these guys to get into gear (and Gronk to get back).

Who are they going to get? Forget about Moss, he's done. Getting gronk will help as will more work with this group. The play calling wasn't the best today either.

Well the solution is not on the waiver wire. The talent is on the team, now the staff needs to groom and develop it.....

Or his durability. The guy played stiff legged and was immense. When he plays thursday night are you still going to question his durability? The same guy who missed only 5 games due to a broken collarbone. Usually an injury in adults that could take up to 12 weeks to heal.

Thompkins has chad johnsons routes.  kind of hard to catch on sideline all game.  but he made some mistakes.  he will bounce back.  i think they need to change his routes up.

Agreed, the last time I checked the NFL doesn't award extra wins for style points.

Re: Pats better get on the waiver wire for some WR's

Thompkins looked a lot more poised in the preseason.   I think it was partly nerves.   He had some very poor technique.  I actually think he has good potential.  He's big, gets good breaks off the LOS and (despite what we saw today) has good hands.

But I said all summer and through camp that I expected a vet WR to be added to the roster.  It hasn't happened.  I'm not sure the rookies can progress fast enough without a veteran to step in until they are up to speed.

Re: Pats better get on the waiver wire for some WR's

Looking a little deeper at the stats, the top three receivers (Amendola, Edelman, Vereen) were target 33 times and had 24 catches for 241 yards and 2 TDs. The rest of the WR, TE and RBs were targeted 19 times and came up with 5 catches for 47 yards.

If Gronk comes back fullstrengh eventually, I think that Gronk, Amendola, Edelman, Vereen and Ridley (assuming he holds on the ball and gets his job back) are more than enough weapons for a top NFL offense.

Re: Pats better get on the waiver wire for some WR's

NAh. But they do need to coach em' up.

Thompkin's biggest mistakes were rookie issues.

1.) Getting too deep on the end zone route and playing himself out of the TD.

2.) Not digging against the EZ boundary.

3.) Not executing the turn around route almost cost them a pick.

4.) I'm guessing the stumble on the dig route in the first was nerves. It was his first opportunity to catch an NFL pass and his knee just kind of buckled.

Sudsy needs to work on his cuts. That was sloppy and cost NE a possession. If you only get open once ... you better make it count.

That said ... for all the negativity ... Amendola was nails on the final drive.
