According to a Twitter post by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots have traded LeKevin Smith to the Denver Broncos.

    Schefter Tweets:

Denver and New England are dealing. Denver just acquired DE LeKevin Smith from the Patriots. Don't know terms but know Broncos needed D help

Denver first-year coach Josh McDaniels, the former Patriots offensive coordinator, certainly has knowledge of Smith from his time in New England.

Makes sense that they are moving him as he was log jammed behind at least Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, and Brace.
As for compensation I think a 5th is likely but I also think he is worth a bit more then that so maybe a 5th and another depending on # of games started or downs played something like that.
Just business as usual for this great front office.

Who is next?  Mike wright?  Ben Watson?  Tank Williams? Greg Lewis?  or do we keep these guys and risk cutting someone we know will be claimed for nothing.

The odds are good as it was just reported by the Herald.  We got a 5th in return and can now keep our 4th.

    Smart business indeed.

Yes...the Pats traded Smith, who  wwas probably going to be released anyway, along with their 7th rounder in 2010, for Denver's 5th rounder...which can be used to complete the Derrick Burgess deal, thereby allowing the Pats to keep their 4th round pick: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9947768/Patriots-trade-DL-Smith-to-Broncos

This is a good sign. It means that NE has more talent. I remember reading Reiss' column where he stated that Hobbs would be 4th or 5th on the CB depth chart this season, and I can't help but think that Smith was a three year guy who was fourth or fifth. It means that Pryor and Brace are better players.

Yes, hopefully this means Pryor is a keeper.  Interesting photo of Smith tackling Eli during the Super Bowl.  Anyone remember when that play was?

Re: pats trade le kevin smith

Well last week we knew something was coming because you know there was no way we were giving up a 3rd and a 4th for Burgess. Some of us thought it would be Ben Watson getting traded but this was a smart move. There is way more talent in round 4 then round 5 anyways so this was a good move to help us keep our 4th round pick next year.
