Wilfork >>>>>>>> Peppers.  Not even close.  Peppers would be learning a new position past the age of 30, and didn't even have a dominant year rushing the passer. Wilfork is absolutely essential to the d-line.

Wilfork and we also need a veteran OLB so offer Jason Taylor a 2yr 2 mil a year with some additional $$ based on performance.

Get Peppers to do what exactly?  Play OLB?  How easy do you think it will be for a 30 yr old to learn coverages and work on his transition when covering?  This guy would be a 10 mil a year project, thanks but no thanks.

BB is not going to change his complete defensive scheme to have Peppers play DE in a 43 plus Peppers wants to try his hand at OLB so that's why NE was mentioned.  If you want to pay that kind of money go after Dumerville or an elite already established OLB.

I would take Wilfork for roughly half the money if I had to choose.

Peppers had 10.5 sacks last year for his 16.7 mil plus Bonus. Wilfork is solid enough for 7 mil and at least earned his paycheck last year.

    Re: Peppers Or Wilfork

A no brainer. You want the known quantity - Wilfork. Then you want to build up some nice young talent at outside linebacker. Peppers might be a nice stop gap and if we could have both then you get both. BUT we saw what can happen when you bring in new guys who were great in different systems ie Thomas and Burgess. They can be mediocre here.

Given the choice you go with the sure thing - Wilfork. Lock him up and build the rest of the line around that.

    neither

Trade fork for one pick and draft Ricky Sapp and Brandon Graghm of Michigan

Only thing is Wilfork has to sign the Franchise tAG BEFORE we can trade him

We would have to aggree to trade him to a party willing to compensate him before finalizing the trade

Boston-kyle - Wilfork was on the 2004 champions. Peppers is too old for a multi year contact at 16mil per. Sign Wilfork for 3 yrs and find someone cheaper than Peppers.

    Re: Peppers Or Wilfork

Wilfork is way more valuable to pur defense. The 3-4 is useless without a dominant NT like Wilfork. Come on Pats, pay Wilfork his money. He is too valuable to our defense to let go. I was afraid that if Brace played decent they would let go of big Vince, but now that they saw how ineffective Brace was they know they will have to keep Wilfork. We shed the big contracts of Seymour and A. Thomas, so use those savings to pay Wilfork. We have nobody making big money on our defense. On a side note, re-sign Bodden as well. Our best CB since A. Samuel.

    Re: Peppers Or Wilfork

To pay Peppers who may have to give him 12-14 MIL/yr to be a 3-4 DE, which he has never played he has a motor that turns on & off.  He is a LDE & has never manned the 3-4 RDE position which works more to hold up & keep the Linebackers clean, stop the run & control the edges it is less-stat driven & requires more patience something that Peppers has never had.

The Pats need (2) 3-4 Defensive Ends: And, FA 3-4 DE's don't come cheap b/c the DE's usually have had to take on more double teams/chip blocks by TE's, RB's, extra blocking Tackles etc. b/c the OL has at least 5 blockers for 3 guys & the DE's have to absorb blockers & have to disengage enough to tackle ball carriers as well.  3-4 DE's usually have lower sack totals b/c their chief goal is to allow the Linebackers to rush the passer/get sacks & tackle RB's for a loss.  Also, the Patriots have to decide if they still want Jarvis Green DE on our roster since he is a FA, he is a backup for us, but can step up & be a starter if need be.  Is Jarvis Green DE worth $4 MIL/yr?

    3-4 DE's in the 2010 NFL Draft
    Corey Wooton DE N-Western
    Carlos Dunlap DE Florida
    Jared Odrick DT/DE Penn St.
    Clifton Geathers DE S. Carolina

    3-4 NT's in 2010 Draft
    Dan Williams NT Tennessee
    Terrance Cody NT Alabama
    Cam Thomas NT UNC

3-4 NT's are alot harder to project & develop in the NFL so if you have one you better hold onto them until there usefulness is gone, but w/o VW our entire DL can be run on worse than now.  We can see obviously that any team can run on us from LG-LT -LTE, LWR's etc... The Ravens exposed us on that.

We now what/who we have in VW, we don't know if J. Peppers can make the switch mentally/physically/psychologically.  B/c the Patriots can't afford to have anymore non-leaders on their Offense & Defense & especially if Peppers was to get 10% or more of the Pats salary cap for even 1 yr under the salary cap, any way Peppers isn't coming here if Seymour wasn't going to be paid than Peppers at the same age won't get paid more than Seymour.
