That's great news.  He was one of the best o-linemen last year.  What a great pickup he was.

Yes, this is no small thing. Football is won in the trenches. You cant pass or run without winning it there.

While I would have liked Light to come back for one more year he might ahve ended up backing up Solder anyway. But Waters is certainly going to start unless there is some heck of a surprise (or injury). This is that much more imporatant with Mankins (for those who sometimes hack on Mankins, I would take him any day of the week - tough player, good player, coachable player... everything you want... he even was able to put the bad feelings generated during his contract negotiations aside as Kraft was able to do) starting out hurt.

I worry he'll wear down as the year carries on, but he was quite good last season, fit into the lineup without a hitch in the Miami game.  Happy to see him back.  So we're looking at

Solder Mankins Koppen Waters Vollmer ?

Awesome news. Now just need to get Mankins and Vollmer healthy. Pats should have a top 5 offensive line this year.

Connolly has the inside track to start over Koppen atm, but it will be a competition.

    Solder Mankins Connolly Waters Vollmer
With Koppen, Wendell and Cannon backing up.  That's some pretty damn fine depth.

*edit* And how'd I forget about Gallery?  I'm feeling good about this line.

O-line is deep.  Love Waters coming back for another year.  Guy
    was solid last year.

Pats have some good young talent at the position as well.
