Sounds like 6 that could be 4 if he enters some sort of treatment.

Also thinking Pittsburgh must be thinking hard about their future with him. From what I heard from Schefter Pittsburgh was ready to cut him if he had been charged!

    Re: Rothlesberger suspended 4-6 weeks

Well, if he's gone for 6 games, that pretty much hinders the Steelers from being a legitimate playoff threat... IMOP, they had a few games that should have been very winnable early on, and had a relatievely reasonable schedule otherwise....  e.g., they probably were better than the Titans, Bucs, Browns,... Now I'm not sure how to think how they'd respond without Ben, Holmes, etc... I just assume the Ravens and Falcons, Fins and Saints would have given them good games anyway, now, a 'rusty' Ben might tip those a bit as well...

On the bright side, it isn't as if this gives an huge advantage to either the Pats or the Jets, e.g., Ben would likely be back with some reps in time for the Pats game, and certainly then have a few more games under his belt for the Jets game. I could see this whole situation as being more of a 'spoiler' role playing a team like the Jets. Does seem to help Maimi a bit, though.

4-6 weeks? This has got to be the NFL's version of a work release program. They're going to need it with the way this offseason's Police Blotter has been looking.

This is pretty much what I expected to happen. We won't see Holmes in game two. Also expect some sort of appeal that gets Ben reinstated after 4 games. I don't like it; cuz now when the GF insists all football players are idiots she'll likely cite Big Ben as a prime example. And, frankly, I doubt I'll have a witty comeback.

4 to 6 weeks for what? He wasn't charged with anything because there was no crime. I'm sure he's the 1st pro athlete to get drunk with a girl and have sex with her. Before everyone goes nuts and replies that Big Ben raped her, i don't think that's what happened. Just my opinion but i think she has to be accountable for her decisions that night.

    Re: Rothlesberger suspended 4-6 weeks

I honestly don't like the 6 game ruling for some reasons already stated. Slippery slope and all w/r/t conduct rulings that in this recent case seems more 'he said she said' where both seem a bit warped on their sides. I do think the Steelers will be forced to at least entertain reasonable offers... e.g., after drawing a line with Holmes, it would seem a bit inconsistent to not consider 'Cutler-type' compensation from some team for Ben... I could easily see a fan base like Oakland or Buffalo willing to embrase him after this, e.g., winning will solve a lot of issues. Seattle probably has the ammunition as well, maybe Minnesota.

I would guess Minny might be a nice hidden spot, e.g., find a team that Ben could even sit out the entire year, let Brett play one more season, let the media circus around Ben die down a bit. Give Ben the time to work his way into that team. They have enough talent that losing a first this year and maybe one for next wouldn't be as critical as what they'd be gaining knowing one of those picks probably has to go towards a QB anyway...

    Re: Rothlesberger suspended 4-6 weeks

Here's a very unique perspective on the Roethlisberger suspension:

It would be discrimination NOT to come down as hard on Big Ben as they have on other players who have received negative publicity in the past couple years.

I'm interested to see how long the suspension lasts, but I expect 6-8 weeks at least, if not more.

The league really doesn't want to give up its absolute power over disciplining players.  Right now, Goodell is the judge, the jury, and the executioner.  If a discrimination case removes those rights, appeals would start going to third party arbitrators, which the league does not want.

Do you like to leave out all the critical details of what happened in GA?  Whether or not he raped her or not...Big Ben knew the group of women he met & had become a part of his entourage going bar to bar were 19 & 20 yr old college sorority sisters.  His off duty PA police buddies knew this as well from the beginning of meeting them all.  Big Ben then bought shots & drink for said women to get them drunk so he could get some from one of them.  He technically encouraged and served/provided underage drinking.  THAT on top of just putting himself into the position of getting accused again IS against the NFL conduct policy and DOES allow Goodell to serve BR punishment for his actions!

Heavens to betsy, underage drinking, what shall we do!?

Ben didn't do anything wrong, he's just being assassinated by the media and Goodell is just trying to look like he isn't a racist.

The real kicker is the witness report that Big Ben's personal bodyguard dragged a drugged 20 year old woman into the men's room, apparently for Benny's needs.  That one's hard to explain.

Ben is not taking one more snap for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  A seventh rounder takes him away if necessary, although much more would be gratefully appreciated by the Rooneys.  The Dutch auction is on.  The Krafts sure aren't shelling out any seventh rounder, but maybe someone else will.

C'mon, that is not standard party behavior (and this is not some anonymous Joe-Schmoe who cuts the grass at the Steelers' field).

There are just too many witnesses to Ben's aggressive, boorish, arrogant behaviour that night to dismiss it all.  There is the bruising and blood in the g&nital area. Then the reports that the victim stormed out of the club to the nearest cop she could find, in tears.  Then there is the said cop conspiring with Ben to clean up the situation. Then there is the crime scene literally being scrubbed and santizied before proper evidence could be collected.  Witnesses include bartenders, the victim, the victim's friends, and women Ben aggressively approached who rebuffed him and who were not part of the victim's group of friends. Then the story of the Nevada rape accusation.  And the third rape accusation investigated by an attorney as being described as almost, "exactly the same situation," as was described in this second accusation.

At what point are you willing to suspend your disbelief?  Do you also believe that O.J. did not murder Ron Goldman and Nichole Simpson?  Do you believe that Oswald acted alone? Do you believe in Santa Claus, too?

    Re: Rothlesberger suspended 4-6 weeks

Wow, you guys simply don't understand how the NFL rich boys club really works. The Rooney's knew well in advance *exactly* how long the suspension was going to be. Why do you think they signed Leftwich, a QB who knows the Steelers offensive scheme, in advance of the suspension notice? Do you think Goodell really makes any decisions on this without the Rooney's (who are one of the most powerful owners in all of sports) OK? The Rooney's are tired of Ben's off season antics, and decided to teach him a lesson. They worked out the details, and told Goodell to implement it so they would not have to deal with an appeal from the Players Union.

Take a look at the Steelers schedule, and here's how the deal will go down. First, Meathead gets a "mental" evaluation, which of course he passes. That allows him to train AND play in the preseason. Leftwich also trains and plays, but no big deal since he has an intimate understanding of the Steelers offense anyway. Since Ben is conforming to the agreement, the suspension gets lowered to 4 games. The first 4 Steeler games are not "prime-time" so no ratings loss for the NFL with Leftwich in the drivers seat. On week 5, the Steelers have a bye week (Wow! talk about "lucky" scheduling), and then the Rooney's and the NFL proudly announce the return of their "rehabilitated" star QB just in time for all the Steelers "prime-time" games.

Oh yea, and all the money Ben "lost" for the 4 games off? How much you want to bet he gets it back at the end to the season as a "bonus" for not challenging the suspension.

    Money talks people.

chrisakawoody, you hit the nail on the head, "At what point are you willing to suspend your belief?" Many Steeler fans are fed up with his behavior. The more that is released about this case, the more it stinks to high heaven. I knew a guy who let two 19 year old hitch-hikers, that he picked-up, to drink a beer out of his cooler. He was on his way to a party, with a cooler in the back seat. After enough begging & pestering from the boys, he let them each have a beer. They didn't know him from Adam, but he had a paint job on his car that stood out like a sore-thumb. One of the parents went to the police, and a week later the guy was arrested. He ended up going to jail! While in jail, his mom died, and he wasn't allowed to go to the funeral. Have they filed any charges against Ben for buying these girls drinks?  If it was Ben or some other ungrateful athlete in jail under the same circumstances, they'd probably give him a police-escort to the funeral, then have a signing autograph after. There are more important things then winning football games! In my opinion, I think he's out of here! Forget about Ben tarnishing the Steeler image, he embarrassed his family and for that I say, shame on him!

I have to give credit to the many Steelers fans that are generally being more willing to reject Ben and his scandals.  A lot of other teams' fanbases (Raiders, Ravens) would probably still be defending such a player.  Come to think of it, by this time next year maybe Raiders fans will be defending Ben for some new scandal.

So you are saying that it doesn't matter that Big Ben (who should be so far beyond college drinking binges & a 2 time NFL winning QB and makes $100 million dollars) had the intent from the beginning of the evening to get underage women drunk so that he can have sex with them IS NOT something that isn't a big deal???  So you are saying that Big Ben having a drinking problem isn't a big deal???  So you are saying that Big Ben's attitude that he is above the law and can do whatever he wants & get away with it (because of said SB wins) IS OK???

I hope that you don't have any daughters about 19-21 years old & find themselves drinking with Big Ben, because I think YOUR thought process will be a bit different, I hope!

Last I checked it's not illegal to do it with a 19 year old.  Lots of married couples are more than 10 years apart in age - what is your problem with that?

So you are saying that Big Ben having a drinking problem isn't a big deal???

Since when does he have a drinking problem?  He likes to go out and drink, who doesn't?

So you are saying that Big Ben's attitude that he is above the law and can do whatever he wants & get away with it (because of said SB wins) IS OK???

Everyone is allowed to have whatever attitude they want.  It's a free country.
