In Response to Re: Shawne Merriman!!
[QUOTE]You think so? He has 40 sacks in 3 yrs, highest among any players. His off field issues include a suspension for substance abuse, which was also imposed on Rodney Harrison, so that could be acceptible. The Tila Tequila thingy was all media hype as she withdrew her complaint when she realized that her laywer has no case. I think we can afford to use one 2nd rd pick for him. Our current 2nd round pick Brace isnt doing much anyways and we have wasted a few 2nd rounders (chad johnson). I think its worth the risk. Heck even Randy Moss had off field issues! We gave him a chance! If the trade works out, and even if he get 7-8 sacks this year, I think it is successful as our leading sack speacialist last yr was big Sey with 8. Any thoughts?

Edit you post to say "Chad JACKSON" ... small thing, I knew what you meant, but just for accuracy.
That's why I said draft picks are Black Swan events. You don't know if Tom Brady is going to succeed as a 6th rounder, but if you draft 100 guys, at least one is going to be a Pro-Bowler. Even Matt Millen drafted Calvin Johnson (on his 3rd try) along with Kevin Jones. With better personnel evaluation, you can improve your chances.
I think Darius Butler will be a shutdown corner someday. I think Sebastian Vollmer will be a starting tackle someday. And for all the naysayers with such high expecatations, Ron Brace is still a rookie. If one works out, it was worth it. If two work out, all the better.
By my count, about 1 in 3 Pats picks pan out. I'd rather see them take their chances on 3 2nd-round talents than trade one for a player who might not get you results. He's coming back from a similar injury to Brady. He might not come back this year (in terms of productivity)... and then the 2nd rounder really wouldn't be worth it. I'd rather see them trade a 2nd rounder for Terrell Owens or Lee Evans. I think the pass rush can come around without Merriman.
