    In response to RidingWithTheKingII's comment:

    Sweet!

    Excellent move!

    BB rolling!

Certainly blows away the Patterson signing, huh, RKrap?  LOL!

The timing of this is priceless and I haven't even seen the contract, but it has to be good. Kelly probably ran from the airport in Providence to meet with BB.

Perfect last 2 years of his career and plop him down next to Wilfork, maybe in a rotation with a stud rookie.

Keith Traylor Part II. He was doubled more so than Seymour in 2011 and especially in 2012.

BB has done a lot of moves that I was looking for so far this offseason. Hopefully, he has a couple more to come.

You obviously didnt watch him play the last 2-3 years. I have. You probably liked the the Haynesworth signing of 2011. He wasnt doubled teamed all year. Fact. Raiders were brutal vs run. Enjoy him, because he will enjoy the money more.

I thought this a good signing as well.  New surroundings on a winning team could rejuvenate the DT.  I like this move very much.

my thoughts exactly.. haynesworth redeux.. more dead money for another big name with little functionality. may as well have signed seymour.. kelly strikes me as a jabroni at this time, koolaid notwithstanding. i really just dont grasp this one!

    Finally someone who gets it.

"Trust me when I tell you, Commie Contrarian doesn't get anything.  He's a known moron around here.

Look at how he types or tries to form a sentence for crying out loud."

Rusty you are right on Kelly, it was a good "value signing". I get a little frustrated with BB's drafting and signing philosophy but within that context he has a plan and Kelly absolutely fits into that plan.

Comparing him to Haynesworth makes no sense.

That said I liked the Haynesworth roll of the dice at the time and I suspect these 20/20 hindsight specialists did also.

I stand by Commie who is not the best writer and sometimes types passionate things that are not well thought. he's a spur of the moment dude (sometimes prisoner of that moment), but Commie is also a passionate Boston sports fan. Yes, your arguments are far better written than his and you probably have deeper football knowledge than he does, but Commie is a fan who has fun here and doesn't let things get so freakin' personal the way you do. I also don't know what Commie is going to say next, which is a welcome change from your ultra predictable "BB did something brilliant again that nobody understands but me' and/or 'Brady cost us those postseason games' and/or 'our defense played well enough to win the Super Bowl but Brady and the offense let us down' and/or 'BJGE was a great back'". Whereas with Commie you never know what he will say or think next and frankly that is refreshing as he will rethink his positions based on new information. Commie you are underrated man - of course now that I say that please don't go posting something off-topic and offensive and make me look the fool....

On the other hand Sandy Row Belfast doesn't seem to bring much to the table. Fortunately only seems to have posted about once a month since 2011 so hopefully will just flitter away into the ether...

Re: tell me again y TOMMY KELLY was a pressing need?

look, Kelly at one time was a very good player. he is clearly on the down side of his career. can the Pats coax 1 more year out of him? Lets hope so. Lets also see at what cost....

Patterson on the other hand was for NO GUARANTEED MONEY! He was a free tryout in camp, with something to prove playing for another contract at 29 years old...

Rusty can offer his analysis and most if not all of us can choose to ignore it. All of us can also easily research this guy to see he is on the downside, mostly due to age and physical beating, but MAYBE he has one more year. Think Ellis, Warren, Albert. Throw it against the wall and see what sticks (this guy is no physical speciman like Carter was).

Rappaport said it himself "if the guy wants it".....lets see if he makes it thru camp before we congratulate ourselves on what a genius BB is. Lets hope this is not Gallery part 2.

I like the fact Pats are going after interior DL (I assume Wozzy likes it as well)...I still prefer someone under 30. Some call it laying in the weeds. Others call it cheap. I think it neither. I think Dennerd and the Gronk injury (must keep Fells until Gronk 100%) have tied the Pats hands and they have reached the limit on what they can spend at the moment.

Makes me very nervous that Edelman is a goner

Re: tell me again y TOMMY KELLY was a pressing need?

Think about what Vince goes through every game. Double teamed every play, O linemen grabbing his jersey, his neck, holding him.....

But, he knows that's the life of a NT. They need to be double teamed. That way..someone on the Dline can get to the QB....it's the basis of every BB D ever built.

One little problem...Love and Deaderick don't get to the QB so Vince get's the snot beat outta him for nothing.

Not saying Kelly fixes this...but he's worth a shot and the Pats need to try...

These thoughts crossed my mind as well...is this just another Robert Gallery signing? I'm leaning heavily towards no, because a guy like Gallery really was a bust - this guy has been very productive. Is he washed up? I don't know, it's not like he's 35 years old...he turned 32 4 months ago. I've got to think in a proper rotation with Vince and Jones drawing the attention, he will give us something with limited reps. The guy is huge...at the very least he gets his hands up and disrupts the throwing lanes of some QBs (we haven't had that in a long time).

Trust me I know it's getting hard to just say "in Bill we trust", when we keep signing these old players that are washed up...Ocho, Hayneworth, Springs, Shaun Ellis, Gallery, Addai, Stallworth, Gaffney, Holt, Galloway, Fred Taylor, John Lynch (remember that one?), and more, but I think this one may work out.

Really?  Is this just another one of commie's many handles that he uses?  Seldom does anybody agree with this guy.  Maybe you're one of his many sources.

Re: tell me again y TOMMY KELLY was a pressing need?

BB is a retread king.  He "signs" all sorts of JAG players for a tiny bonus, then boots them down the road if they don't work out.  On rare occasions a small gem pops out of the mud.  Signing RFA Wes Welker away from Miami turned out pretty well, didn't it?

There's a chance that Tommy Kelly was playing injured for Oakland and now he's healthy.  There's also a chance that a worthless Kelly will get cut by August 7 to make room for yet another retread.  Just let him perform and see if he's on the squad in September.  Better Kelly than one more no-future UFA in camp.  In any case, if Kelly does shine he'll be around for two years per the contract.  Also, if he bombs he'll probably be home sitting by the phone in November when BB calls him up.
