The day after the Super Bowl (poem)...

As I woke up this morning
from the post Super Bowl fog,
I put the coffee on, strong,
kissed my wife, pet my dog.

    Thought for sure I'd awake
blaming the players and the coach,
but as I rose from my slumber
my heart took a different approach.

    I started going back over
    the prior six months,
thinking back on all the games,
all the tackles, passes and punts.

And as I sit at the keyboard
    and on the season reflect,
its the bad thoughts and feelings
    that I choose to reject.

Yeah, I could sit here looking back
    and thinking what might-have-been,
that they didn't come home with
    a Vince Lombardi Trophy win.

    But maybe cause I'm older,
turned the big 5-0 last fall,
    I have different perspective
now that 'I've seen it all'.

So I choose to be thankful
if its all just the same,
than to waste my time playing
    the who's-to-blame-game.

And instead, this is my time,
as bad as today may seem,
to thank the owner Bob Kraft,
BB, his staff, and the team.

    Sometimes in our lives
    to all my Patriot friends,
    its about the Pats journey
and not just how it ends.

    Another year of winning
    the AFC-East crown
    and turning those Jets fans
    faces to frowns.

All the highs and the lows
    from victories and losses,
    all the Gronk TD spikes
    all the Brady TD tosses.

    Another year of making it
    to the years final match
which the Pats could have won
    with just one final catch.

    So thanks to you Patriots
for another great year of fun,
can't wait for next season to start
    another Super Bowl run!!

    The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
    Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
