Think San Diego regrets dumping Brees?

Or are they too stubborn to admit that they made a mistake going with Phillip "cry me a" Rivers?

Brees proved his real value on the Superbowl to the point where Chargers management must be lining the rails of the Coronado bridge.  And he is a likable guy, too.  Can't say the same for Rivers.

Rivers is a fine QB.  Brees had a very nasty injury to his shoulder which is why only two teams showed interest in him when he was a FA.  Miami decided to go with Culpepper rather than take the risk on Brees.  Yeah, a lot of teams look stupid now but back then it was a big roll of the dice for New Orleans.

    They should regret dumping Marty.

No way.  Brees is great but Rivers is an emerging star QB as well.  Just because Brees won the SB in New Orleans doesn't mean he would have in San Diego.

The real team with regrets has got to be Miami.  They had him on a silver platter in 2006 and gave him away to the Saints.

Brees is better now, Rivers will be around longer.  And next year is the Bolts year!!! oh wait wasnt that this year?  or wasnt it last year?  hmmm they never seem to actually have their year, do they?

20/20 hindsight.  Brees had a bad injury to his throwing shoulder, Rivers has turned into a top 10 NFL QB.  Hard to fault SD for their thinking on that one.  Miami on the other hand.......

Rivers will never, ever, ever, EVER, be a elite QB nor will he ever win a SB. guaranteed and seriously he has a bad attitude with an annoying personality. I put him in the same level as Romo and still behind guys like McNabb.

I dont think they regret it seeing as how Phillip is also a stud...and younger than brees

however, Marty Shottenheimer (spelling) wanted to keep brees while AJ Smith wanted rivers...So who knows what woulda happened if they fired AJ Smith and traded rivers away instead of letting brees go

That's a darn fine post, rookie! Get used to dismissing hindsight. A lot of people on this board use it to try to make themselves look more well-informed.

This years Saints have a very good defence.
This years Chargers defense was not.

Re: Think San Diego regrets dumping Brees?

Are we seriously comparing Drew Brees to Phillip Rivers? It's not even close! Brees is one of the top three QBs in football.

Not only that, but they let Welker and Michael Turner get away also. That team could be scary good right now.

I'm not going to go so far as to call Rivers a choke artist. But he he doesn't seem to handle pressure very well. And he has some growing up to do. Two things you don't want people to be able to say about your QB. I would put him in the Tony Romo category right now. Brees, on the other hand, is a champion.

It would be one thing if they had picked a guy like Eli Manning instead of Rivers...oh wait.

Luckily, they did get Rivers, and he is a QB very capable of going all the way.

Hell, if it wasn't for Nate Keading, who says this team couldn't have gone all the way this year?

They have the weapons, and the defense that will get the opposing offense off the field.

If Brees was in Rivers situation right now, it would be the same exact result for the Chargers.

You can debate Rivers and Brees, but this is still a dumb post given that, as some have pointed out, it's Miami that really screwed the pooch on Brees and has no QB to show for it.

Philip is a stud, as much as I like Drew he is a product of Sean Payton's outstanding offense. Drew is a great QB, but Philip is still young. He'll get his.

    Re: Not At All

In Response to Not At All:
Brees was a volume-stats quarterback until this season.  In San Diego he made just one playoff game and lost.  Rivers has brought the Chargers to the playoffs four straight years and has won three times.  Rivers has been a heluva quarterback.

Brought San Diego to the playoffs?    It has nothing to do with the fact that San Diego was the only team that could win a game in the AFC west?

I disagree that Rivers "Brought" San Diego anywhere.
