What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

The draft is loaded with great 2nd round talent. Does anyone like what could be? Anything you would do different? Why?...

Pick 22- Trade with KC for pick 36 & 50.
Pick 36 - Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State - 6'5, 285 lbs, run stopper.
    Pick 44 - Eric Norwood, OLB, S. Carolina - 6'2, 245 lbs, Pass-rusher, leader, Bruschi-like heart.
Pick 47 - Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale - 6'8, 312 lbs, Vollmer clone.
Pick 50 - Ben Tate, RB, Auburn - 5'11, 220 lbs, Fits into what NE likes to do with their RBs. A mixture of Morris and Faulk.
Pick 53 - Sean Lee, ILB, Penn State - 6'2, 236 lbs, Smart player, leader.
Pick 119 - Brain Jackson, CB, Oaklahoma - 6'1, 202 lbs, Ty Law type DB.
Pick 190 - Andrew Quarless, TE, Penn State - 6'5, 254 lbs, Alge Crumpler 2. Good speed, great blocker that only gets better with time, mediocre hands.
Pick 205 - John Estes, OG/C, Hawaii - 6'2, 295 lbs, versatile, former fighter, smart, athletic, fits into the spread offensive line well.
Pick 229 - Chris Carter, WR, UC Davis - 6'0, 191 lbs, has the right name to be good at the WR position, Welker type receiver, throw him the ball and he'll get you the first.
    Pick 231 - Tim Knicky, OLB, F. Austin - 6'4, 247 lbs, to me, he's just a 3rd down rusher.
Pick 247 - Trindon Holliday, KR/PR, LSU- 5'0, 166 lbs, I love what Tate might bring to the table, but I would rather keep him at WR. Everytime I saw Welker go out to field a punt my heart nearly stopped. It's time to draft a specialist.
Pick 248 - Scott Long, WR, Loiusville - 6'2, 216 lbs, has great potential. He reminds me of a mixture of alot of receivers Brady loved passing to.
Pick 250 - Reid Neely, OG, Mississippi - 6'6, 310 lbs, Outstanding blocker, blocked for BJE in college, wants to hit people.

You might get your wish! Then again you might not. I like to read everyone's wish lists of things to happen in the draft. I live in Florida these days and would love to see the Patriots use their picks on some of the players I've had to watch on the local feeds from CBS,ABC and NBC down here which means a lot of SEC,ACC and Big East games. I know a lot of folks are down on Tebow but if the Patriots could find a way too draft him they would be getting the Heir apparent for Tom Brady,if they need an Offensive player all of the guys from Florida should be on their radar and the guys from Clemson Spiller,Ford, and Palmer. The ACC was loaded with talent again this year and this draft is littered with the guys from that conference. If you had too build a secondary from these guys Nate Allen,Jerome Murphy,Joe Haden,Major Wright,Javier Arenas,Kareem Jackson,Chris Cook,Chris Chancellor,Brandon Ghee,Patrick Robinson,Crzesdon Butler,Nolan Carroll,Prince Miller,Chad Jones,Myron Rolle,Eric Berry,Kam Chancellor,Randy Phillips, and these are just the DB's and Safeties! This area was loaded with top end defensive players... The offensive player weren't sub par by any means. With just a few names like Spiller,Ford,Hardesty,Dwyer,James,Holiday,Scott,Peek,Hernandez,Cooper,Nelson,
Dixon,McCluster and this isn't even close to the tip of iceberg as far as players coming out of these conferences. Those are 30 of the best those 3 conferences have to offer it's like a damn smorgasborg of high quality football players!!! I'm thinking between the 3 conferences there are at least 75 players available in this draft, what that means to Patriots fans is a lot of these guys are going to passed over and they will be available in the late rounds which the Patriots now have 7 picks in,I've always liked the old saying that Good news always travels fast.....

Sorry, I don't like it much.
Norwood and Veldheer are taken a bit high.  You might even be able to say that about Tate.  I don't know if Jackson would be there.  Plus there seems to be a little too much risk taking and/or development issues as in Veldheer and Carrington.  Can the Pats afford to wait?  Can the fans for that matter.  Just take a look around on this board and you see the impatience.

I believe the Pats would do better keeping the 22nd pick.  Top tier talent will be there as the line stops at around pick 25 or 26.  They can get a difference maker here.  In your draft I don't see any.

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

I prefer Lamaar Houston over Carrington.  My research says Norwood is 6'0", NOT 6'2". BIG difference. if 6'0" forget. MY pick there is Weatherspoon. Veldheer. Why an O lineman, that high in the draft? Patriots need  a cover corner. Jackson is not one.   For cb, as my third #2 pick, I have Javier Arenas. Yes, only 5"9", but tough and physical, savy with solid cover skills. Also a good return specialist.

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

I'd like either Carrington or Houston though I'd lean towards Houston fr a bit higher upside and I love the Veldheer and Long picks but not liking the rest of the draft.

I don't view Norwood as an impact OLB and I don't view ILB as big of a need as WR. I don't think Carter or Long are a proper #2 for the upcoming year.

Tate I'd be fine with but not my ideal back in the draft, he might be had with the #53 pick.

Keeping the trade but revising the 2nd round picks a little I might go

#36 - Jerry Hughes/Sergio Kindle DE/OLB (Since I think Graham will be gone by then but atleast one of the 2 will be there)
#44 - Damian Williams WR (I think this kid is going to be a special WR, think of a younger less injury prone Boldin)
#47 - Alex Carrington/Lamarr Houston DT/DE (Either might be here and I'd be happy with both)
#50 - Jared Veldheer OT (Vollmer Clone? maybe, maybe not but worth a late 2nd)
#53 - Jimmy Graham TE (some people have him rising to the early 3rd/late 2nd. His talent and ability he could end up being another Watson with his trangle numbers or be what Watson was spos to be. Either way a late second is worth the risk for a franchise TE)
#119 - Ben Tate/Toby Gerhart/Anthony Dixon (Have a feeling one of them will be there in the 4th would like any of them as a blocking back that can get you short ardage and pound the ball between the tackles on draws. None are really homerun hitters but will keep defenses honest keeping a larger ILB plgging the hole for draws. They are just to big and powerful to take down if left into the secondary)

you nailed it, however you didnt really address the WR problem, we need some1 to replace Mossy, and the perfect person for the job is Damian Williams.. this draft is right around the corner guys cant wait!!!

Stay at 22 and improve the pass rush with Kindle or Graham.  Trading down when we already have a ton of picks makes no sense.

What about that 1st rounder in 2011?.....To me it is not the Patriot way to hang on to this pick. My bet is that they'd send that one to someone for a couple of 2nd rounders. Could that happen in this draft?.......I'm confused about it with the potential for a lockout. Thoughts?

not a big fan of the following picks at all....

Sean Lee - wayy too small for inside linebacker.

Ben Tate - alot better running backs in this draft than to use a 2nd on Tate.

definately seems youre really high on Eric Norwood. Why do you consider him better than Graham, Hughes, Kindle, or Sapp?

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

There are several ways to look at the 2011 draft and I break it down this way... The 2010 draft being the last draft before a rookie slot system pushed most of the good underclassmen to declare for this draft pushing the value of a 1st round pick this year down a little. Most years the first round tallent dies out around pick 23 or so, this year there are 50+/- with a 1st round rating. The 2011 draft is looking like a low volum year for 1st round tallent with probably 12 to 15 gaining a 1st round grade.

Now using that knowledge I say Oaklands 1st round pick is very valuable because it will be top 10 and the Patriots can use it with the new rookie slot system and trade our own which will hopefully be very late in the first round for another second in 2011 and a second  in 2012.

BTW... Even if a few underclassmen in 2011 declare it is unlikely to push the 1st round tallent much past 20 deep.

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

Alex Carrington - Excellent choice for a big bodied DE,  However loosing out on Sergio Kindle or Jerry Hughes is a major league blunder. My Guess, Graham will not get past Atlanta at # 19.  The Falcons addressed corner issues via free agency.  Bill will trade down and out of 1st round, much like last year.  Gerhardt from Stanford, particularly with his Pass protection skills is another nugget to be mined.

Keep an eye on Naaman Roosevelt from Buffalo - a sleeper pick in middle rounds for WR

    I agree.

Including the freebies, we have 14 picks in this draft. If anything, I'd like to see us trading a bunch of these 6th and 7th rounders for a 3rd or 4th.

We're not in a position to be taking flyers on late round guys anymore. We need playmakers NOW!

i dont think they'll pick 14 ppl. I think its more likely they use later picks and try to move up into 3rd...

we don't need a run stopper with our top pick.

the problem last year was not enough big plays from the defense (interceptions, sacks, etc.) other teams killed us with the PASS, not run.

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

From what I read, we all agree that Carrington is available the Pats should go after him. I'll agree that Eric Norwood was a stretch-- He just reminded me of the the type of guys we had at LB during the dynasty is all. You know, Bruschi, Willie Mac, Vrabel, and Johnson.-- but I certainly have to disagree on your analysis on guys like Sean Lee, Ben Tate and Brian Jackson.

Sean Lee, 6'2, 236 lbs, is a actually taller than Bruschi and only ten pounds lighter. The guy is suppose to be a Peyton Manning-like LB. He can read an offense and is never caught out of position. This guy is a stud, I say they move Guyton to the outside and plug Lee with Mayo. I love how people are willing to take Tebow who WILL never amount to anything in the NFL, but they are quickly dismissive to a LB who only needs to put up 10-15 pounds to be a great one.

Ben Tate, 5'11, 220 lbs, I know there are better running backs in the draft than him, but no way we draft a RB with a high pick. Tate fits into what New England backs are asked to do. I know people are in love with Gerhart, but Toby will only be a fullback in the NFL.

Brian Jackson, 6'1, 202 lbs, I disagree. We don't need a shut down corner next year in New England. Butler has so much upside that he'll take over the LCB position (opposite Bodden, the RCB) and hold it for years. Jackson is being drafted because I don't trust Wilhite, Wheatley or Springs.

On drafting Kindle, I am against it. He seems to be a liability against the run. I would rather go Hughes.

who is carrington? he is not even the best DE in the state of Arkansas!!

that would be Malcolm Sheppard. he played DT for Arkansas at 6'2'' and 285 lbs. Outstanding player who will find a place to play in the NFL. He played in the SEC. who is this guy from Arkansas state?

Re: What do you guys think? (My Draft wishlist)

Pick 36~ WR Arrelious Benn, IF gone-Damian Williams
Pick 44~ 3-4 DE Alex Carrington, IF gone-Lamarr Houston
Pick 47~ 3-4 OLB Ricky Sapp, IF gone OR IF no on health-Koa Misi
Pick 50~ OT Jared Veldheer, IF gone-Rodger Saffold
Pick 53~ RB Montario Hardesty OR Anthony Dixon OR Toby Gerhart (dealer's choice)
Pick 119~ 3-4 DE Brandon Deadrick, IF gone-Clifton Geathers (Q: Too early? A: 3-4 DEs fly off draft boards)
Pick 205~ 3-4 OLB Brandon Sharpe, IF gone-Jason Beauchamp
Pick 229~ WR Eric Decker, IF gone OR IF no on health-Shay Hodge, IF gone-Scott Long
Pick 231~ ILB Joe Pawelek, IF gone-Micah Johnson (Q: Too late? A: The past 5 years, after the very top ILBs, the rest fall BIG-time)
Pick 247~ P Matt Dodge, IF gone-Zoltan Mesko, IF gone-Scott Love
Pick 248~ TE Scott Sicko, IF gone-Nathan Overbay (TEs have been slipping, NE doesn't use them, and these are 2 big guys with decent #'s from small schools, So 1 should be there), IF both gone-BPA
Pick 250~ OG Brandon Carter, IF gone-Andre Lewis, IF both gone BPA

So there ya go...I'll live with simply finding a TE after first cuts IF need be, and I'll live with NOT getting a CB (because Butler/Bodden and my secondary are improving), AND therefore- actually massively improving my D-Line and OLBs instead to help them.

    Total take2 WRs (ideally: Benn & Decker), 2 3-4 OLBs (ideally: Sapp & Sharpe), 2 3-4 DEs (ideally: Carrington & Deadrick/Geathers), 1 SILB (ideally Pawelek/Johnson), 1 RB (ideally: Hardesty/Gerhart), 1 OT (ideally: Veldheer), 1 OG (ideally: B. Carter), 1 TE (ideally: Sicko/Overbay), and 1 P (ideally: Dodge/Mesko)...

~SO Our D is now young & sick @ both OLB (with Guyton/hopefully Burgess rounding it out), both DE (with Warren and then 1 drafted guy as sub off the bench), and both ILB (SILB with Mayo, with Guyton helping out the drafted SILB if need be too), Our #2 wideout spot is set for years (two #2 wideouts and 1 transferring in A. Benn to #1 wr in a year), just shored up the entire right side of O-Line (1 simply stud OT, and 1 OG from Texas Tech's regularly #1 offense-as a late rd steal coupled with Ohrnberger @ OG and Light either cut or @ ROT until Veldheer is solid enough halfway through the season), gave us the big & quick-to-the-hole Rback to stop spearheading DTs @ Brady, gave us 1 of 2 underrated choices that are Big and Fast enough to jus solidify the TE-spot just enough to give Crumpler a rest (both/either draftee is at least 6'5 and @ 250 or more), and a good Punter that can land it inside the 20 at will...
No problems?  Didn't think so, because I'da man...
