What are you talking about?  Seymour, Warren, Wilfork all can be team leaders.  I think this team is loaded with leaders on both sides of the ball.  I think it was nice that Bruschi took one for the team and retired rather then force BB to even think about cutting him.  He is one of the greatest Patriots ever but his time is over.  Hopefully if he wants to coach there will be a spot for him with the Pats.  Probably end up in broadcasting.

Chung and Mayo....Belichick deliberately drafts leaders on both sides of the ball.

1.) Have much better speed and range at middle linebacker.
2.) Expand Mayo's role as a signal caller. Expand Thomas' role as a signal caller. Expand Meriweather's role as signal caller.
3.) Increase Patricia's input/have Johnson double back over some of his old responsibilities

All things being equal I would prefer Bru still be here, but that said, his depature is likely to have more positive impact than negative if we factor in the playing time he would have had to draw at his salary and experience.

No question Bru brings heart and soul (sp). Mayo was going to become one of the, if not, the signalcaller. That's not meant as an affront to Tedy. it's just where the team is headed. If it was up to me Tedy would play until he's forty and be just as effective as he was when he was 27, but that's just not how most professional sports leagues and athletes function. I know it might sound callous to say this, but this is something that was going to happen sooner or later. When Grogan left I thought we lost our best player and we'll never be the same, however, this is all just part of how things function at a high level......to attain and maintain that level for as long as Tedy did is remarkable. Most players are on their way to becomoing a casino greeter after 5 or 6 years.

I agree with ZB, that new leaders (and some ol leaders) will take control. Anyone prophesying doom is short-sighted and not well-versed with how the NFL teams really function.

Seymour and Wilfork are hardly leaders.  All they do is b*tch about how they don't get paid enough.  The D-Line doesn't "lead" the defense on the field anyway, that is the job of the ILB and safety, which every year until now were Bruschi and Rodney.  No way are Mayo and Guyton and Merriweather as good leaders as Bruschi and Vrabel and Rodney.  The team will still be fine, just not as smart a D as we've had all decade.  And a lot less fun to watch without the old guard.

Seymour and Wilfork are the top 3 at there positions in the NFL. I dont remember either player bitching. They  expressed there desire to have contract extensions and then showed up for work. Obviously D-linemen do not call adjustments but they can still be leaders on the field and in the locker room. Being a leader does not only constitute calling out defensive audibles. It entails representing the Patriot way and teaching young players how to learn and improve. Yes we have a void to fill but the patriot way is when one man is gone another steps up in his place. I am confident that having Tedy and Rodney teaching our young guys the last few years will have a lasting effect on our players and will make for a smooth transition!

I do agree with you that it will not be the same and I posted earlier it ends an era of Patriot defenses, but I am looking forward to what Belicheck can create this young defense.

The heart and Soul, that's for sure. Tedy is a Champion in every sense of the word. To have three rings, and comeback from a stroke, how many have done that. ZERO . The guy has been a model citizen, model family man , things that really count. A first class linebacker, not the best athelete, but one of the smartest, had a knack for being at the right place at the right time.

I hope he has a wonderful life and becomes a patriot coach as soon as the opportunity presents itself. If the NFL and all sports had more guys like Tedy , and less like OJ, Vick, Pacman, Burris. They would be light years ahead

This is a legit concern. Soemone now need to step up and become the new heart of this football team. And Tom Brady doesnt count. We need a guy on defense who steps up. I think Mayo and Merriwhether could be those guys or James Sanders. Plus we still have Seymore.
