In response to BabeParilli's comment:
Well, back then we thought BB was some sort of a genius GM and now those with insight realize he inherited some great players, made a couple of key moves and lucked out bigtime getting Brady. Since those dynasty days we have found out BB is very human indeed and as a GM has simply let the team around his HOFer wither into mediocrity.
Generally agree with this babe. Your word mediocrity is a bit harsh based on the Pats record.
A good cross section of Pats posters here feel, as You, that as a GM, BB hasn't been able to replace those skilled positions from the SB era. Because of BB success as a HC the relative low bottom of 1st RD pick has become perennial. Instead of versatility if BB had chose to pick the best talent available at those particular positional standpoint(s) that worked well in his system, like SS, DT, DE, CB (note: all on D). Then over the last 5 years or so, picked up (spent) just for a couple of proven higher end but young FA to the mix, the Pats would be most likely, be sitting with 5 SB Rings now.
Troy Aickman was not wrong when he said " this 2011 Patriots D is the worse I've seen in a SB. It was that little bit of an edge of 'pure positional Talent' that has been missing for quite awhile. The Pats O led by TB even with Reche Caldwell,Maroney etal; was/is consistently good enough for 11 wins for Playoff spot.
What pizzed me off about BB the coach, was playing a crippled Gronk in a SB. The guy couldn't jump 2 feet for a free beer if had to, that Interception by TB was on BB not TB, Gronk was so bad he could'nt reach around and hit the ball away .... I could'v done that.
have a good night and keep 'your Good' comments coming .... Nice to see you return from the "Happy Trails" lodge.
