    Why is Hernandez even practicing.

Shut this guy down until he's completely healthy! This team has already locked up the division anyways. If they can't win the division without Hernandez, then this team prob doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs.

I'd rather be a 3 or 4 seed with Hernandez than risk aggravating the injury more (a la Greg Jennings) and being a 1 or 2 seed.

I don't know how serious this ankle thing is. But I would have no problem if they would choose to shut him down until Week 16 or 17. (I chose 16 or 17 because I would prefer for him to get into some game shape before the playoffs)

Also, how much of a benefit do you think it could be having Hernandez missing this much time? The offense is clearly much different with him in than out. So there would obviously be little game film of the Patriots in this offense.

But by that same reasoning, there may be little chemistry too. Should be interesting

Agreed. 50 million reasons to sit him till we need him. This was obviously a high ankle sprain and it looks like we pushed him too hard by playing him before the bye week..

well first of all he is limited...whatever that means but he may just take part in the stretching part of practice and receive attention on the sidelines

second...practices are nowadays primarily unpadded with very limited contact; not like there is much danger even if he is doing any running at all

Good thread dapats.  I would have him in a walking boot through week 14.  Give him a two game tune up, then release hell in the playoffs.

Really?  I'd say it's pretty much the same regardless of who is in.

This is why I love/hate fantasy football.  It makes all the sense in the world to bring him back at the right time ... 100%.  Maybe the Houston game ( week 14) because that might have seeding indications.

But for now the bozos on the waiver wire are killing my team! I may not be playing in week 14! I need Herny!

Everyone knows the offense is different w/o him, so (my opinion only) they limit him in practice so the opposition has to plan for him, and rest him on game day to confuse them. Is he or isn't he? Whadda we do? He'll probably dress and not play, for stategic reasons, or am I over thinking this! Lol!

I don't understand this one either. The ankle wont heal this way. I'd rather they sit him one week longer than they need to than bring him back a week early.

again, the mistaek was having him come back early the frist time. this p[ractive thing now tells me his ankle is coming along and wihtout contact there is much les chance of setback. hes on the mend.

i said durign the game when it happened and later that day, that this injury seemed to me to be more serious than guys here adn the pats were portrayign it (as usual seveal thought i didnt know what i was talking about) and said i expect hes out several weeks, and should be allowed to heal the ankle completley (or near so)before he returns. this type of injury can cause serious problems if not allowed to heal (which can take 4-7 weeks).

The last 4 games is the home stretch and we are playing 2 powerhouse teams then.  3 if you want to count the Miami game as they always play us strong and are playing much better now.  That's when we need him.  Until then, keep him on ice.

Let him heal naturally, save him for the end of the season when we need him more.

The Patriots shouldn't give him steroids,  HGH, or any other illegal PEDs that would risk his availability at a later time.

I'd sit him until the Superbowl and then only bring him out for the second half if we're down. I want the guy healthy for the Superbowl After-Party so he can dance.

I personally don't think you can sit a guy till the end of the season (or close to it) and have him walk out there in the playoffs and be ready. You are going against the best teams in the league in the playoffs and they are fighting tooth and nail - there won't be time for Hernandez to shake off the old rust during a playoff game..the game will be over by the time he gets warmed up. He needs to play if he's healthy enough. He needs to get into a groove and build some momentum heading into the playoffs. We already are going to have one tight end walking into the playoffs rusty..we don't need our two best weapons dropping balls and sucking wind in the third quarter.

Why are the Patriots wasting all this money on an expensive medical staff when they could just consult people on this board about what to do with their injured players?  Of course none of us has a clue about the condition of any of the players, but that should not stop us from offering our expert opinions.

I've had plenty of ankle injures and the best way to get back is towards the end of recovery you have to lightly test it. You do have to workout on it but in a limited role. Doing to much to quick can do more harm then good but slowly increasing strength  will aid in recovery if he's getting close to coming back. It's not like these practices are full hitting drills and I'm sure they are limiting what he can do so to me it's just part of the recovery. If he plays this weekend though then I'd be upset
