Will an 18 game season prevent a lockout?

It seems like this is a good excuse to up salaries for players meaning a decent jump in salary cap. As a fan I'm probably in favor of cutting 2 preseson games and making them regular season games but I'm fine with 16.

I think it will come down to players get $ and owners get more $ with this set up. The big question is will the players be stinkers on the release clauses in contracts?I'd hate to see the nfl become like the nba and major league baseball where you are stuck with a player who stinks up the room and have to keep paying big money.

If the owners use the 18 game season as a reason for a lockout they are the biggest dumbaS$es in the wolrd, it will show how greedy they are and how less they care for the players well being.

is anyone in cleveland, cincinnati or buffalo gonna go watch their team that is 2-14 with two home games left in the end of january?

    Probably not.

But they'll watch them in August.

who cares about filling the stadium in august, there are only pre-season games then, and they stated if they add  2 more games, the season wouldn't start earlier than it already does.

the point is if they had a couple extra games, and no one shows up in january because they are losing, then the owners have just shot themselves in the head, becasue they are going to lose money, if they can't fill the stadium

The extended season is all about a more lucrative TV deal. Gate receipts are a nice anicllary benefit if you can fill your stadium -- or more to the point, fill your corporate suites -- but it's exactly the owners who can't fill their stadiums who want more games, because it means more TV money, which everyone splits equally.
