    There's a serious echo here.

Wasn't even close, Tex stomach wascrossing the bag when the ball was received.

And yes he slid because he couldn't run not out at least 2 weeks.

    prknsdnld,

posts well taken.  must have had a nervous posting finger here when thinking about texiera being called out.  sorry for the duplicate posts.  won't happen again.

and, sure the ump got confused because he thought that the runner was going to run through the bag and then didn't.  remember, the umpire only has a split second to make a call and if confused he may have made the wrong one.  i am sure that the umpire did not know that texiera was hurt and could not make the last step after running almost all the way to first base.

poor yankees.  but, they will get a make up (or two or even three) call later this week to balance it all out.

just a few things 1.)Girardi should have just let the question be asked and been done 2.) Sherman should maybe have dropped the question instead of continuing to ask it in different forms, now we have all seen bad calls in countless games, this was no different an absolutely terrible call, but bottom line imo Tex was dead wrong in his postgame comment...you want to say the call was bad and he missed it..fine..you want to lament it snuffed out a important chance..fine, but to accuse an umpire of motive..not good...i don't care what team you play for whether it was Tex, Pedrioa, Pujols, Hamilton or anyone  that's bad form...that's just how i feel...

Mark Teixeira said he had no choice but to slide into first base tonight. His strained left calf was hurting him more than expected, and he didn’t think he could keep running.

    [/QUOTE]

Maybe he should take up a girls sport then. What a pussy.

He should stop lying, saying it was a slide. He really tripped over his tampon string.

few points here. Never was a Teixiera fan, less so in pinstripes but I give him credit for beating it down the line knowing it may reinjure his calf, which apparently it did, for the good of the game/team. That said, I agree with Jete he went too far in his comments after the game.

As far as Ortiz, the situations being what they are, dictate it.  Teix is playing for a team in the hunt for the division and October. No good reason for Ortiz to play and take the chance of reinjury, given the standings. One team is in for first, the other last. Ortiz is  being re evaluated, hasn't ruled out playing again this season, but my best guess is, you won't see him again before ST.

Bad call, but Teix was over the line, especially when you consider the Maier & Mauer calls

    hit post, then refresh.

This goes back to the debate, are you hurt or can you play? Fans are critical of players who try play hurt and adversely, if they don't come back off the DL quickly enough. Teixiera said he was "playing on one leg" Would Girardi have played him if the NYY still had a 10 game div lead?  You listen to the player, the medical staff and make the best decison you can, at the time. Tough call. Ortiz came back for one game and was back on the DL. Pedrioa tried to play hurt more than once and made it worse. I give Teix credit for playing all out, when some wouldn't have.

    Teixeira to miss 10-14 days

The Yankees just passed along this update on Mark Teixeira…

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira was seen today by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He underwent an MRI which showed an irritation of his Grade 1 left calf strain. Teixeira will be evaluated on a weekly basis moving forward, and is expected to be unavailable to play for 10-14 days
