What's Ortiz worth, if Ellsbury's cost is 100M. I'd say about 100 trillion.
Down 4 runs in the 8th inning with one man on base....a walk is as good as anything else Ells could have done there....so if that is begging for a walk.....fine with me....Victorino K'd on balls out of the strike zone....so that was better than Begging for a walk? Do you ever view reality or just what you want to see based on your pre decide opinion of the player in question....you are an embarrassment to Sox fans.

That walk was vital. Ells got screwed on the 2nd strike call. The walk was as important as any of the hits prior to Ortiz's granny.

Ellsbury did exactly what was needed.

are we headed to another Softy melt down? You can start to see he is getting upset and he does have a tendency to boil over.

Ellsbury did nothing to earn the walk. Smyly was the master choke job.

The last two pitches were good takes by Ellsbury.  Not swinging at balls that are close is doing something.

Pitch #5 especially was very close.  Look at the replay, or the track of the pitch on Gameday.

So, let me get this straight, we don't want Ellsbury to work counts and walks?  Is this correct?

Smyly was so wild that the ump had to be laughing at "close".
A bit of an exaggeration.  Smyly only threw 6 pitches and 2 of them were called strikes.

So are you saying that Ellsbury hasn't been swinging the bat lately?

His BA is zero in the ALCS, and his OBP is .250 only because of Smyly's choke job. Has he hit a ball out of the infield yet?
We have a lot of really bad numbers in the ALCS.  Everybody in the lineup last night was hitting .000 in the ALCS until the 6th inning.

Ellsbury got a walk against Sherzer too. What's that tell you about Sherzer?

You're the one that's begging.  What's the team BA in the 2013 ALCS? What's Ellsbury's BA in the 2013 postseason?  What would Ortiz's ALCS BA be if not for Benoit's choke job?

This chopping up into tiny snippets that suit you is shameful, Fireman.

softy wanted Bogey to play and Drew benched based on a walk... now this.

A complete misunderstanding of how baseball is played.

Down 4: get on base anyway you can. "Begging for a walk" is great baseball!

Softy Law where do you get the idea anyone else would ever dream up something like that post.

You really are convincing the majority on the board you have lost it. It's just one more on a growing list of comments that are beyond belief.

Ells is scratching and clawing to find a way to get on against a tough pitcher and he's "begging" for a walk--who's he "begging" for a walk?
