Judas Priest, there's no pleasing some people. Softy used to gripe that Ellsbury didn't draw enough walks. Now he's griping that he drew a walk.

Yeah, when we needed it most!

He also berated posters for saying the Tiger's pen was weak. Now, he blames our win on the Tiger's weak pen.

He once "blamed" Ellsbury for stealing home vs the Yanks.

The absurdity list goes on and on.

softy wanted Bogey to play and Drew benched based on a walk... now this.

A complete misunderstanding of how baseball is played.

Down 4: get on base anyway you can. "Begging for a walk" is great baseball!

Like I told him, it is the Ellsbury obsession which derails his train.  IMO, Ellsbury has been swinging at too many pitches.  I'm guessing it is because he was absolutely killing TB.

Still, outside of hitting a grandslam with one guy on, a walk is as good as he could have done.

What's Ortiz worth, if Ellsbury's cost is 100M. I'd say about 100 trillion.

This is the best you can come up with after a big win. By the way if Ells doesn't walk then Papi never gets to the plate with bases loaded?

Smyly "walked", not Ellsbury. Classic choke job. If he pitches to Ellsbury, game over.

    [/QUOTE]

Interesting extrapolation, but completely lacking in perspective.  Do you think the reason he was not pitching to Ellsbury might have had something to do with respecting Ells' ability to hit?  You probably don't, but, it surely had something to do with it.  Even if Smyly came out of the pen and just didn't have his location, you think he is going to groove one to Ellsbury just to make sure to throw a strike?  No.  Granted, Smyly didn't have his best stuff, but thats baseball.  It wasnt a choke.  It was a pitcher struggling to find a way to get past a good hitter, that hitter recognizing that the pitcher was struggling and taking advantage of it.

And, in any case, weren't you griping about Smyly not getting strike calls?  So, which is it?  Choke, or got robbed?  Please choose one version of the story that eliminates Ellsbury's role in the affair and stick with it.

Wait your title says Ellsbury begged for a walk, then you say Smyly didn't pitch to him.  Can you at least pick which lame rationalization you want to use to ridicule Ellsbury so I know what to laugh at you about?

The guy choked. "Pitching to Ellsbury" means he wasn't choking, not that he was pitching around Ellsbury, oh man of "grinder" and other meaningless words and prhases.

That is funny stuff.  This post is convoluted and grammatically inpeneterable, even by your standards.  Yet I am a man of meaningless words and phrases.

Whenever any hitter reaches base by any means, please undertsand that this is merely a result of an opposing team's player 'choking'.  i.e. all base runners are a direct result of oppositional 'choking'.  Personal skill or ability are non-factors.

Look for the Chokeability Index to soon become the new go to metric for all player evaluations.

Red Sox need Ellsbury to get on base, however he can; and once he gets on base, they need him to create mayhem on the basepaths for the Tigers.  Particularly, today.  Almost essential to disrupt Verlander's rhythm and the roll he has been on.  Go Red Sox!

Red Sox in 2013 World Series, Patriots in 2014 Super Bowl!
