    A team trying to collapse

Multiple bad plays yesterday and tonight and, really, no good plays.  What did Casey Stengal say about the early Mets?  Can't anyone here play this game.  Inept standout has to be Salty.

It is beyond me why some want to continue to expect much from Salty. Why not give Lavarnway a real shot ?  Salty is simply not very good. Maybe Lavarnway is worse, but let's give it try. And ,yes we are playing some really bad baseball in this series. If it continues, first place will be gone by tomorrow night. And , as I said earlier , if Lester is healthy, why would you use Dempster in this game ?

This is the last day the Red Sox will be in first place this year. it has been smoke and mirrors. Poor FA signings, getting no production out Salty, Napoli, Drew Hanrahan, Bailey, Victorino, I thought JD Drew was bad, Victorino is hurt more than old JD. they have good prospects . But they play guys who can't run. Dempster is a bust. Texas signed Dempster for the pennant drive last year, he was a flop. Hanrahan pitched the Bucs right out of the race last year, he was obviously hurt, Cherry signs him, drew was an injury waiting to happen, as was Victorino. Players who can't play because of injuries are not players

If it wasn't for Lackey they would really already be in trouble, Tampa is coming . The Rays will leave beantown in first place, write it down.

pushing Lester back two days only says to me they dont want him to face the Yanks...and that type of surrender is contagious....if he can pitch in a few days then he can pitch now - especially since he hasnt pitched since BEFORE the All Star game...

    dumb

    As always - 100% correct!

'He hasn't pitched since the ABG'

I assume you can safely say that about 100% of all SPs 3 days after the ASB.  Every single SP that pitched on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will not have pitched since before the ASB.

Baseball is never a game of small sample sizes, to make any real judgement off of one or two games is an absolute mistake.

Bad baseball and yet still may take 2 of 3. That says something about a team. The fact that they can over come their mistakes and against one of the top AL pitchers is the mark of a good team.

Of course many here would rather look on the bad side rather then see what is good.

Tarzawa and Salty will be played into the ground by late August....Both just had 4 days off

Yesterday they tried to make things happen against a guy who has pitched well against them. If any one of them worked it would have been a different game. Funny how some here say they should challenge the other team more yet when they do and fail they get pizzed on.

LOVE my  Red Sox, Bs, Cs, Pats and enjoy the ride every year.

It's unbelievable.  Almost two hours since their last post.  One second after Napoli hits the HR, and they lost all their bravado.  But if we blow the game, they'll be in here thick as thieves.

Wrong on the first count.   The Sox are still 1.5 games up.

Last time the on-rushing Rays played the Red Sox, many assumed they would take over then ... but the Sox have been in first for over 50 days.  The Rays have been playing great - except against us.   The last series they lost was in Boston and they are a meager 3-9 v the Sox so far.

I am not doubting the capabilities of the Rays.  But I am not doubting ours either.

Stop your whining. If you think the Sox are so bad and the FO is so inept how do you explain a 60-40 record. If you're so unhappy why don't you just move to Tampa, I hear housing prices are cheap.

I'm the culprit and am more than happy to attest to the fight still in the Sox, who came roaring back thanks to their bats.  Late error by Iglesias was on a tough play.

This is turning into quite a race. Every game is important, Fundemental Baseball is very important.  We played 2 games Sat and Sunday, where we ran into outs, had throwing errors, struckout 15 times in last night's game and still took the game last night.

Grinding, mentally tough Baseball. This team is tough. No hate here.

Sorry, but you'll have to wait at least two games for this one to come true.

it has been smoke and mirrors.

I've been watching a lot of it, and I prefer to just call it good baseball.

Poor FA signings, getting no production out Salty, Napoli, Drew Hanrahan, Bailey, Victorino, I thought JD Drew was bad, Victorino is hurt more than old JD. they have good prospects .

So just playing the prospects would have met with similar success?  Just like last September?

But they play guys who can't run. Dempster is a bust. Texas signed Dempster for the pennant drive last year, he was a flop. Hanrahan pitched the Bucs right out of the race last year, he was obviously hurt, Cherry signs him, drew was an injury waiting to happen, as was Victorino. Players who can't play because of injuries are not players

I'll admit that it can be painful watching Papi and Napoli run the bases, but when they they slug one over the fences, like Napoli did twice in the last game, do you really need an accelerated home run trot?

If it wasn't for Lackey they would really already be in trouble, Tampa is coming . The Rays will leave beantown in first place, write it down.

Tampa is playing well with or without the help of the Red Sox, so it is possible that this prediction could come true.  But based on your tendency to focus on the negative, and your premature and incorrect prediction about the last the day the Red Sox will be in first place, you may not be the greatest source to consult regarding these matters.
