It's so much deeper than you may or may not realize. Boston and anything related to it is a bad publicity for what is trying to be accomplished in this country. It's a symbol of freedom and the birth place of liberty. That is very, very bad to highlight in these times. I posted a response on that article in the comments section. That writer, she needs to be fired. She has a BBWAA vote. Unreal. Farrell could have lost, which is fine. But not to be top 3 in the AL? Even mid September, anybody would have argued he was top 3. Without question. More journalists need to be held accountable for idiotic things such as this.
thanks  for the most interesting and probable explanation

I've often wondered why the national tv announcers, nat media, umpires & BBWAA

    hate RSN so much

doesn't that lose merit if the same fan trashed bobby v

It may nor may not be correct, but why else? Why is everywhere else better than Boston? In any sport. Other than Hernandez, no major PITA has played on the teams, recently at least. Hell, little known fact. New York didn't even vote yea in independence. They abstained. Trust me, I believe everything is done with a purpose. They don't want shots of Bunker Hill, or the Consitution and have kids ask what was that about. They hate it when a Boston team goes deep and worse case, wins a championship.

It was a toss up and so what.  They don't give parades for the manager of the year.  I bet JF does not care and is glad to be second to his good friend.

The high pay roll works against the sox.

Just another classic example of the disdain the national media has for Boston sports teams. Voting should obviously be changed to take place after conclusion of the world series.  How could MLB allow such an injustice.  So, who do we credit for a worst to first culminating in a world series championship?  Sure, the players get a huge amount of credit however, the manager is the one who plans, motivates and directs those players to perform at their best possible.

If you look at the voting, John Farrell received 6 third place and 12 first place votes.  That means that 4 writers who gave Francona first place votes only gave John Farrell third place votes.  How can you give the world series championship manager 4 third place votes and give another manager who did a one and done in the playoffs 4 first place votes.

That aside... How logically does anybody give Girardi ANY votes?  Maybe it's a New York minute... or should that be New York money...

wow Sox fans need to end the whining.....Francona took a team of stiffs with zero chances to the playoffs...the Sox were terible in 2012 but that was a perfect storm of badness.....I personally thought JF deserved it but it wasnt highway robbery - and Im no fan of TF.

Sorry...but Tito Francona being awarded Manager of the Year over John Farrell is a joke, and proof that anti-Boston sentiment is still alive and well within ESPN. For example, take a look at this ridiculous explanation as to why Tito was selected...and Farrell doid not even receive a second or third place vote from this ESPN conehead: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/42166/my-al-manager-of-the-year-ballot-explained

The very fact that this idiot felt a need to "explain" his vote tells you all you need to know.
Farrell should have gotten it.. No dought !!! But congrats to Tito for a job well done. Tito led Boston to 2 WORLD SERIES... Where was his MOY award? Two jokes on that one....
Again, the voting is done before the playoffs begin.

Where was Titos MOY award before the playoffs before Sox won 2 world series under Titos watch....again!!!!

Maybe I misunderstood your earlier point, but it seemed you were wondering why Tito didn't win MOY in '04 and '07 despite winning the World Series.
Yes .. i guess the world series thing  was just something extra i threw in.  My screw up !!!!

Nope. I am happy for Tito and I think its well deserved. The problem I have is that womans arguement for why Farrell wasnt even in the top 3. She contradicted herself and made herself look very bad by suggesting the only issue the Sox dealt with was Buchholz.
The idea that your team must meet some prerequisite number of injuries in order for you to be considered for MOTY is strange in and of itself...
I think it is more that, if you have no injuries, you're expected to win more relative to a team with more injuries.

That's ridiculous.  Tito finished 24 games ahead of las tyear, beat out TB and TX, and came within one game of Detroit.  There is probably no one that predicted that.  It is one of the great maqnaging jobs in history.

If you want to vote for Farrell, I would understand it.  But to suggest it was a joke, when Tito did an epically good job, is ridiculous.

    AWESOME.

    &

    AWESOME.

but, I'm pretty sure that most of the forum members are smart enough to spot that troll.  no matter how many times he may post that he is a Sox fan or however many times another yankees fan states that HH is a Sox fan.

FTR - Even your messiah J. Torre says that looking back he probably should have "forced" Jeter to move to 3rd in 2004 so that Alex could play SS.  Even knowing the consequences of the temper tantrum that would have ensued from that true yankee (one of the most ridiculous/lamest terms ever)aka "the captain".
