The greatest nickname in baseball history belongs to former San Diego Padres catcher Doug "Eyechart" Gwosdz.

Another personal favorite of mine is Franklin "Death to Flying Things" Gutierrez.

Chipper Jones deserves mention because his nickname is so well known, not many even know his real name (Larry)...

I thought the "eye chart " nickname was owned by the late-innings defensive replacement first baseman for the 2004 World Champions.

    Some guy named Doug ?

And if he keeps hitting , " Chicken Neck " Ciriaco mght make the top ten.

Gwosdz had the Eyechart nickname while Mientkiewicz was still in elementary school.  Gotta give it to the guy who had it first, and really it fit Gwosdz better...

I know its football, but my buddy called former patriots safety tebucky jones, "the cape".

It was because Tebucky was so bad at tackling, that you'd see opposing running backs rush for like 7 extra yards with tebucky jones wrapped around their neck , flying in the wind like a cape (completely unable to make the tackle).

Then Rich " Tombstone " Jackson of Denver Broncos qualifies in my book.
Always liked Phil " Scrap Iron " Garner, Mike " Hit Man " Easler, and Al " The Mad Hungarian " Hrabosky.

    And Daffy.

And of course , Don " Stan the Man Unusual " Stanhouse.

And early '80's Expos outfield had a " Purple" ( Raines ) a "Hawk" and a "Cro". Not to mention a Tito on the bench , or usually the DL.
