That's what this thread reminds me of, intentionally or otherwise.

I think it relates back to the old wive's tale of 'you can never have too much pitching'.  Which only works if accompanied by 'you can never have too many roster spots'.  Most teams have similar formulas, if not identical.  5 SPs, one long guy in the BP to serve as an emergency SP, and some minor league prospects, and maybe one washed up vet seeking a roster slot.
