On the other hand, the season is still young.

Still plenty of time for things to go wrong, although even a hardcore cynic ( like myself) is finding plenty to be more optomistic about.

Looking at things through rose colored glasses, I'd say everything is sunshine and rainbows.

But, my darkside says "don't be too excited just yet."

Zill, not trying to be optimistic here.  Just trying to open up the rhetoric past pat overstatements based on flimsy evidence at best that were abound during the off-season.

Of course, Fake Frank, this is no zinger to me.  My stance on Bradley has been one of cautious optimism.

This team will win more games than they lose. I said it before the season started, as did Mr. Farrell. Go Sox!

Before the season began, I predicted the Red Sox to go 87-75 and earn a wild card berth.

If Boston wins today, their magic number to clinch the AL East will be 150.   :)

Good OP.  I thought Lester and Buchholz would be fine, but not this good.

I was sure Victorino was a big mistake, that Drew was a smaller mistake, and that Napoli was too.

Victorino is to me the biggest surprise because he does a lot of things well.  When Ellsbury stole 2d and eventually scored the winning run driven in by Victorino, he was helped by Victorino semi-attempting to bunt, which was a slight distration for the catcher.  I honestly think he is a gamer and don't understand why the Phillies unloaded (probably price, come to think of it).

Max, the thing I don't understand about Shane's detractors after the acquisition is chalking him up as In Decline.  The man is one season removed from arguably the best of a bunch of good seasons for him.  And even in his down year last year, he swiped 39 bases, so he obviously still has young legs.

Until I realized it was just out of an irrational desire to slag Cherrington, I was completely miffed as to why people were so up in arms about paying an all-around versatile  talent and proven gamer like Victorino 13 million a year for 3 years.

I won't quit whining about the umps, but I'll never say that they make more bad calls against us than for us.  I just think they make too many bad calls period.

i liked the signing a ton and his play so far reinforces it.

he's been arguably the best position player on the sox so far. he's doing EVERYTHING right. clutch hitting, perfect D, running the bases well. awesome

    spaceman,

Drews has always had outstanding range at SS and a good bat even though hes off to a slow start.  Some of our fans are so stuck on the Iggy bandwagon they will continue to bash guys like Ciriaco and Drew regardless.  Mike was my biggest concern defensively at 1B before the season but he has done very well.

As far as Clay and Jon, I never lost faith and its very clear bringing in Farrell and Nieves to fix their mechanics was a huge help, along with better team chemistry.  I still say this team is more than capable of winning 88 games if we stay healthy.

Lastly, A GREAT PERFORMANCE BY DEMPSTER TODAY, too bad Bailey blew his win but we still took the game.  Salty is also off to a good strat like last season and I hope it continues, even though he still has no arm to 2B :)
