Have you watched his swing since the playoffs start? Do you see how slow his bat is? He may still come out of it? You can't give players rope at this point in the season. There may only be three games left.
He had a good swing against Martinez last night and sent a hard grounder up the middle.  They made a good play and took a hit away.

He has looked bad, obviously.  But don't expect Middlebrooks to come in and light things up either.  Will hit .227 in the RS and is at .174 for the PS.  He has issues of his own.
.174 is better than .097

On that grounder, I cannot believe that he couldn't have beaten that out, especially being a lefty.

It's not enough to justify taking Drew's glove out of the game.

Not when one or two bad plays can cost the team a game.
If need be, bring him in from the 7th inning on if there is a lead then.    One would think that the hitting slump would eventually get into his head and then cause a mental error on the field.   It's only a matter of time.
The Cards had two bad plays that cost them runs in the second inning.

Drew is staying in the lineup.

Love to see 5-10 runs a game myself. Game was lost on Mental mistakes. Sox had the Best Offense in AL. Relax, Sox got their stinker out of the way. This team has a way of bouncing back, on these kinds of games.
Anytime you get into a tight good Pitched game, you will lose more to stupidity, because usually nobody is hitting, in games like this.

It's funny to see all the posters who did not like the idea of Iggy as our FT SS because he can't hit well enough, now defend Drew based solely on his plus fielding.
I have warmed up some to Drew during the last few months but with three games needed to win he title, Im thinking get Middlebrooks in there and bench Drew for a few games....put Drew in as a def specialist after the sixth with a lead and have him pinch hit/run if needed..

not sure why he doesn't bat 9th and why he isn't bunting at every opportunity

heck, i may even bat Peavy 8th tomorrow night!
That is funny. I agree, but funny.

    Re: Enough of Drew!

What I thought to be troubling was the hit that went off Martinez. Drew just did not look like he was hustling out of the box or down the line. He was thrown out by what seemed like a mile. He needs to sit.

    Re: Enough of Drew!

Not much choice that Farrell have.  Last nite, Boston made a couple errors, and also walked two batters in the 7th innings where they gave up 3 runs.  Had they put Bogaerts at SS, who know he would give up another run or two where the game is more likely out of the hand for Boston.

Bogaerts isnt hitting well in the WS either.   I think Farrell need to put back Middlebrook at 3b just for a better defense as well Drew stays at SS.

Regardless of how Drew is hitting, he has PREVENTED more runs than he has prevented with his bat.  He stays.

He's not preventing any runs, as the Cardinals and Tigers weren't hitting.
This statement makes no sense whatsoever.  Drew has taken some hits away from the Tigers and the Cardinals.  He took a clear RBI single away from Miggy.
