    Farrell pulling a Francona again?

Does this guy learn?  Dempster is a vet but you can't be a sissy and leave a guy pitching the way Dempster has tonight in the game.  Get a set of Ba....s

He'll never live this down. Every baseball fan in New Englland knows Dempster shopuld never, ever, come out for the 5th inning. This "5 to get a win" is such nonsense. Do you care who gets the win?

    Who cares who gt]]]

Our only long reliever is Mortensen so his options weren't great.

Farrell will make mistakes like every manager will.  Does anybody remember a Red Sox manager who didn't?

True Hf, but after two "30 pitch" innings and 6 walks take a chance before the offense just says why bother?

Watching this on MLB.TV, the Minnesota station. Their old manager, Kelley mentioned, early in the fifth inning that he thought Dempster was "hurting". We got TWO pitching coaches in the dugout; neith thought so? I did!

OK, now Mortensen's in there.  Do you feel great about Mortensen?

Not at all Hf, but I also don't believe in the theory of just because a guy like Miller pitched longer than expected last night he should rest tonight.  Miller has been a starter in the past and been on a role so the options are what Farrell makes of them.

The bottom line is our staff gives out an unbelievable amount of BB's.  We need a trade for a real SP to help Clay and Jon badly.

If your SP has a short outing, you have only bad alternatives.  Oddly enough, a very good manager like Gardenhire, left his SP for more ERs.  Leyland, who is supposed to be a good manager, left his guy in for 6 runs, 5 earned.  Bochy, who's won 2WSC in three years, left his guy in for 6 runs.

And this is the same complaint they had about Tito, who did the same things as Scioscia and Maddon.

It's like they don't realize that managers hate wiping out their bullpens.  This is BB101.

You might argue that Gardenhire just made a mistake leaving Swarzak in to face Ortiz.  I'm sure some Minnesota fans are saying that.

And last night, Maddon left Hellickson in for 8 ERs, Showalter left Hamel in there for 7 ERs, Slowey got left in for 6 ERs, Peralta was left in for 6 ERs, Garcia was left in for 6 ERs, and Bumgarner for 7 ERs.

So this apparently happens almost all the time, yet some folks are surprised it happens to us.

The night before, in a very short schedule, Verlander allowed 8 ERs, Cain 6 ERs, and Chacin 8 ERs.

    BB101 has flaws Joe,

I'm sure a guy like Miller would agree with the roll hes been on.  Its a good thing our offense is dialed in tonight, hopefully it wont matter.

Look, unless a pitcher is flat out getting destroyed you want to do everything possible to get at least five inning out of him. This is even more true when you have a good lead. It's not about getting the starting pitcher a win. It's about trying to preserve the bullpen.

What is your idea of getting destroyed?  Four innings, 8 hits, 6 BB's and five runs is very unlike Demp but it was obvious he was struggling very early on.

He is not quite on a role.  His last outing was good, but in his previous 3, he allowed 4 hits and a walk in 1.2 IPs.

Scoreless in his last 12 innings is pretty good.  With the way Lackey, Demp and Doub are pitching he probably wouldn't have done any worse.

If I'm wrong sorry, but NESN made the statement in the pre game tonight.  Regardless you are still avoiding the real issue.  Can a guy that has started in the past pitch again after working a few innings the night before?  I say yes, Miller has the arm and experience to handle the task whether its baseball code or not.
