Can't figure out how the Sox did it. I keep reading this board on how flawed this team is; how many holes the Sox have; how many players sck. Can't figure out how they've managed to win even 10 games this year. Surprised

     Mon    Aug 19    @Giants    W 7-0    Jon Lester

     Tue    Aug 20    @Giants     L 2-3    Sergio Romo

     Wed    Aug 21    @Giants    W 12-1    Felix Doubront

     Fri    Aug 23    @Dodgers    L 0-2    Ricky Nolasco

     Sat    Aug 24    @Dodgers    W 4-2    Jon Lester

    Sun    Aug 25    @Dodgers    W 8-1    Jake Peavy

I was at the game Tues 3-2 loss to SF---frustrating as we should have won that game but I was at the day game on Weds & the 12-1 thrashing was fantastic.

We scored 33 runs( 5.5 per game) & held them to 9 runs(1.5 per game). Don't really know what the stats mean but it was fun to calculate them and "yup" we should have been 5-1 ! I guess we could say that we cooled off the powerful Dodger offense !!!

I'm reading in some articles that we were lucky to have avoided Kershaw & Greinke.

Heck, with Lester giving up 3 hits/1 run( final game score was 5 hits/2runs) and Peavy 3 hits/1 run and doing the same performance, we would have needed 3 runs and 2 runs to win both those games if Kershaw & Greinke had pitched. I am going to be hopefully very positive & look forward to our meeting those guys in the World Series !!!

Can't overstate the importance of this win- beating the hottest team in baseball on their home field, and on the anniversary of the trade no less! Peavy was awesome. This gives the team a ton of confidence going into the home stretch. Go Sox!

I was hoping that the Yankees would sweep the Rays.  That would have helped the Red Sox in the standings.
