Kind of hard to overrate a guy who wins two World Series championships in eight years.

I can't tell you how relieved I was during the series against Cleveland to see his face and then realize he wasn't in OUR dugout anymore. Leaving pitchers in too long was just like old time's sake.

I blame ownership for sticking BC with a manager he never wanted, and then not allowing him to manager and failing to support him at every turn.

I only blame Valentime for his big mouth, which could not be separated from the rest of him. At least he was available as a rental and easy to fire to make way for JF.

I think JF is a perfect fit here. I hope they support him and that he manages here for a very long time.

Managers get to much credit when they win and too much blame when they lose...Its all about the team on the field.

had to laugh at his statement about Jimenez and sticking with him despite him once again on his way to losing 20....playing .375 ball or so and back to his Philly ways...no stars to bail him out there...

    man i miss that guy's managerial wizardry...NOT

How's your guy Valentine doing this year?

Valentine was horrible; Francoma was mediocre and overrated

    And Farrell?

Too early to tell for sure, but I like several things about him: his willingness to remove pitchers from the game at a reasonable time, his mandate to be aggressive on the basepaths even if it may lead to some outs, his ingenuity with defensive alignements (shifts), his willingness to utilize more of his offensive arsenal, and the disappearance, ostensibly with his help, of the whining the pitchers frequently did on the mound last year when the balls and strike calls didn't go their way.

Francona, who oversaw the decline in our pitching, now has an Indians staff with an ERA ranked 13th of the now 15 AL teams. While he is certainly not responsible for all of that problem, I do see a pattern here. I think he has  real problem managing pitchers.

how about giving him a full year with the team before judging?

have you watched every Indians game or just the vs Redsox games?

    cleveland payroll = ?

    450 fans in the stands.

not really stacked in his favor to come out of the gate over .500.

So when Francona was with the Red Sox, the team's great record was all due to the talent on the roster and Francona deserved no credit whatsoever.

But when Francona is with the Indians, the team's poor record is his fault.

    Got it.

Indians have won 4 in a row vs. KC and Philly.  Only 3 games back in their division.

geo, I'm keeping this thread afloat as long as the Indians are doing OK.  Smile

Reduced to past-manager bashing now that every single assertion you have made about the 2013 Red sox, including the now-locked-in Drew, has been made to look foolish after a month of play?

Who would have guessed the Indians would have a better record than the Blue Jays, White Sox, Angels, Phillies, and Dodgers at present? And be only a half-game worse than the Nationals?

Only the pettiest of losers would continue to bash the only manager with two series wins in modern Red Sox history on this forum.

Just a reminder he out-managed Hall of Famer Joe Torre leading the Sox back from 0-3 for the first time in profesional baseball history. Learn some respect.

francona never out managed anyone...ever...2004 was a gift from god....he is the same guy who was kicked out of philly...he is about as great as a winning manager as kc jones and mike ditka were...two other champions in name only
