Another good series win against an AL East team.  On to Texas!

Wow! Hanrahan is going to cause a lot of ulcers for Sox fans but at least it's a happy ending tonight.

I understand the move.  You really need a #2 closer, and winning backs up on the closer too often, and it's probably want to instill some confidence in him.

But it is not something I need to watch.  It's like Wakefield and Foulke and a few others.  Heck, even Doubront.  Sometimes you're just better off reading the results than watching it.

Come on Joe!  We all need some excitement in our lives, right?

Nice  game by Dempster tonight.  He's been an excellent pickup.

Good to see Hanrahan step it up, though I'll admit I was a tad nervous when he came in.

I missed the game. Why did Hanrahan come in for the ninth? Is Bailey hurt?

JF wanted him to get in a meaningful situation, I suppose.

Possibly. I assume that no one mentioned anything about Bailey. It seems strange that Farrell named Bailey as the closer then he was not brought into the game to close. Wonder whats up.

Bailey is dealing with biceps soreness. He first felt it before the game yesterday.

Bailey characterized his biceps soreness as "minor" but said he'd felt it in his last inning and it recurred in a bullpen Wednesday.

Hanrahan was told during BP today he'd be closing. He wasn't told that yesterday.

No team has started 20-8 or better and finished under .500 in a 162-game season. '95 PHI and '94 BOS did it in shortened seasons.

Re: Game Thread 28: Red Sox at Blue Jays

Blue Jays broadcasters, including Jack Morris, leveled accusations of cheating at Clay Buchholz on Wednesday.

    Dennis Eckersley disputed the allegations:

"The more I saw it, the more I started thinking about it, it made me more and more angry about Jack Morris," Eckersley said after the game. "To me, that's clueless on his part. If he knew anything about Buchholz, he knows how nasty he is. His ball doesn't dance all over the place. The guy paints. He's got nasty stuff. He should know that, and he's gotten carried away. It becomes about Jack Morris almost. Where's Jack Morris been all these years, anyway? He finally gets a job up there in Toronto and he has to make statements like that and take away from what this kid has done? I think it's wrong. He's pitched long enough to know. Guys, you talk about stick-'em, whatever that is, pine tar. He knows that you go to something if you're sweaty just to get a grip. It's all about a grip. ...

"When you throw a spitball, the ball falls off the table, and you know it right away."
