The Red Sox might be better off saving their prospects and spending $1 million or $2 million on a one-year contract with Carlos Pena rather than surrendering personnel to pay Justin Morneau $14 million. Their career slash lines:

    CP .243/.350/.472/.822

    JM .280/.351/.492/.843

Or one year for Lance Berkman (older player but is switch hitter and will also sign a one year deal), and last year Gomez played 37 gms. with the Sox. Napoli is still not signed, wait and see what happens with this situation. From what I know the depth at 1B is Napoli pending his contract, Gomez and maybe trying Sands on 1B during spring training.

If the Napoli deal is not completed then Berkman ( Sox were interested in at one time) Gomez and Sands.

    Re: Justin Morneau

They should just go after LaRoche and end this stupid adventure. LaRoche is a better defensive first baseman anyway. He is also a better hitter. Maybe the Baseball gods were watching the Red Sox on this Napoli deal.

If we end up with Berkman at 1B, it makes all the other signings look even sillier.

If we cut Berkmans games per year average down to 109 like Napoli does he has as good an OPS as Napoli?
