No, when Healthy, Ellsbury is not better than J. UPton. Put J. Upton in Fenway and put him in a lineup with AGon and Pedroia having huge years and poof goes your wet dream about the near 30 year old Ellspuff.

More drivel from the board's #1 moron. First of all Adrian Gonzalez plays for the Dodgers, or did you miss that memo? Second, you empty your farm system for a difference maker, the guy that offers support to the rest of the lineup. Think Giancarlo Stanton. And your juvenile nicknames for Red Sox players shows you are not really a Red Sox fan at all, just a fan of your own bloviated nonsense.

Ellsbury has a higher road OPS, where the comparison is more apples to apples.

Why do refuse to acknowledge that a lot of results derive from playing in AZ?

For what it's worth, here are the Bill James Handbook 2013 projections for Jacoby Ellsbury and Justin Upton:

    Ellsbury 668 PA, .294/.346/.436/.782, 37 SB

    Upton 655 PA, .289/.372/.492/.864, 19 SB

In 581 career games, the 29-year-old Ellsbury has been valued at 18.7 WAR (9.4 WAR in 2011) while in 731 career games Upton has been valued at 17.1 WAR. Ellsbury has a career UZR/150 of 9.4 while Upton has a career UZR/150 of 2.0.

    * Wins Above Replacement as reported at FanGraphs

Please don't burden softlaw with facts. His CPU doesn't seem to process them very well.

    "WAR" isn't "facts".

Actually they are facts, and facts aren't funny are they softhead? And ignoring WAR did you look at the slash lines? That sure looks like a sub .900 OPS for the alleged lineup savior.

Re: Memo to Cherry: Close the trade and extension on J. Upton and sign Kotchman to a 1 year deal

    To offer perspective ...

Justin Upton is about nine months older than Miguel Cabrera was in December 2007 when the Marlins traded Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, Dallas Trahern, Burke Badenhop and Eulogio de la Cruz. Baseball America had ranked Maybin No. 6 and Miller No. 10 on its 2007 preseason prospect list.

Here are comparative numbers for Cabrera at the time of the trade and for Upton today:

    MG 3072 PA, .313/.388/.542/.929, 143 OPS+, 22.1 WAR*

    JU 3030 PA, .278/.357/.475/.832, 117 OPS+, 17.1 WAR

    * Wins Above Replacement as reported at FanGraphs
