    Name the one player...

I've been thinking a ton about the Sox MVP and I go back and forth between Ells and Ortiz (I don't like DHs as MVPs). That being said great cases can be made for Koji and Pedey. It made me think of another question...

Name the one player who if he got hurt for the remainder of the year (including playoffs) would be most damaging to the Sox.

While very similar to the MVP question, I think it's a bit different.

I'm going with Papi. I think we could survive the last 4 weeks of the year without him, but not the playoffs. Your thoughts?

They are different questions, because depth is a factor in this one.

And because of this, I say Ortiz.  Who anywhere in the organization is a potential replacement?

True enough for sure, but I do think Carp/Nava/Gomes could do OK at DH.

Who would play 2B if Pedey went down?

      Holt? Middlebrooks?

Who would close if Uehara went down?

      Tazawa? Thornton? Breslow?

Nava or Gomes would be hard-pressed to reproduce even a  fraction of Ortiz' offense.  Pedroia is an interesting thought though...

You are right, but I may add that if Buch doesn't come back healthy, then school is out.

It would be tough to win without any one of the players mentioned. If I had to pick one, it would be Uehara. I don't know where we would be without him. If he had been the closer since opening day, we would be coasting by now. Let's just hope he can do it for two more months.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

True, but he might have burnt out by now, or worse, in October.

Maybe it worked out just right.

you are correct, however if Nap doestn't have a good September and become a threat in the 5 hole we are in trouble. Ortiz will never see anything to hit & Nava gives Papi no protection. Nava only has 11 RBI'S  since the middle of June  and no homers.Nap could be the key to October]
