Next up Dump Lackey on someone with Ellsbury and Ortiz to Sweeten the pot...

There has to be a team out there who needs a bat and speed. If we can dump Lackey do it... You can always resign Ortiz and Ellsbury is living off one season, he can't stay on the field and for some reason will be expecting big money.

Without Crawford we could possibly sign Ellsbury. Lackey can be given a chance as the #5 SP and if he doesn't work out send him packing and eat the money. There seems to be that kind of leeway now.

Ghost, forget about Ellsbury and forget about Ortiz, both see the handwriting...they would be fools to stick around a 5-year rebuilding program. I'm sure Pedroia, a proud guy, will ask for a final trade to appease the masses here. Anything to keep BV in charge and the FO smelling roses after throwing Epstein and Tito under a bus.

Ellsbury is the best player on the team.

They need to sign him.  He is going to flourish with the toxic losers gone

Pedroia is going to play better with the toxic losers gone.

In the off season they need to pick up a no nonsense veteran who will keep people in line.

Papi isn't that guy - he's too nice

they will dump lackey sometime during spring training when he shows he is healthy from tommy john. sox definitly need ells because bradley is a prospect and that is it. he can field but mlb pitching is alot more difficult than aa or aaa. i say keepm ells but at the right price and sign ortiz at 2 for 20 if he won't take it then it is on him not sox. problem is there is no future free agents worth the money. hamilton would be nice for 5 yrs but he wants 8 at least 20 maybe more.
our pitching will be much better next year but expect alot less offense

schumpter, you're missing the point. Boras understands bad environments, and he will advise Ellsbury to seek employment on the West Coast or to an emerging small market team who might pay him above market to get a marquee player. All you have to do is look at the organization's moves and non-moves since last year to know that the Sox have a no-security zone. 3 Guys who had a term contracts have been moved--what's to make any free agent want to come here? If anything this makes it easier for those players to just say No to Boston.

Actually, Ellsbury might be the next one out.

He'll get asked abut an extension.  Nothing will be enough money for Boras.  Jacoby won't sign.  So he gets traded next winter. Same old story.

Are you seriously putting Pedro Ciriaco on that list?

    lol.

I think they have to keep Elles for 2013 if they want to compete next year. Only way he goes this winter is for an ACE (Felix is the only one who comes to mind).

Sox will definitely make a run at Ells if they can move these other contracts. Lackey's contract is not fun but if they can move the rest of this they can find a way to live with Lackey or eat his contract. They can't afford to give up any more good players to eat more contracts though.
